Day 3: Law enforcement searching for missing boy from St. James
The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department asks for your help in locating a missing boy in the St. James area.

The boy was last seen on Thursday about 7:30 p.m. in the 10000 block of County Road 3470; that's a few miles east of Rolla and south of St. James. Another boy with Shay, Xavier Baylor, was found Friday near the Dry Fork Creek in St James.

Here is some more info. Johnathan is autistic. There were originally two boys missing, one was found near the creek Friday afternoon. He told police that he had not seen Johnathan in about three hours. The boys are cousins. The area he is missing in is heavily wooded, he was set on running away and heading towards St. Louis. Without his meds he is likely confused and skittish.

I hate hearing autistic and lost near water. http://www.connectmidmissouri.com/news/story.aspx?id=1228914#.VaK_6Pk0O8A

Another article. Johnathan has gone missing before and was found within 12 hours. He was in bad shape when he was found. http://www.therolladailynews.com/article/20150710/NEWS/150719969/1994/NEWS

This is my backyard. He's still missing, no signs of him ( clothes, footprints etc). I have to wonder if he's alive, we've had a week of high temps and humidity. The heat index is 105 or so daily. Dehydration is a major concern either from no water or diarrhea from river water.

We had some heavy rain last week with minor flooding. The rivers/creeks were up, but LE in checking them again since the water is down and crystal clear now.

Have there been any updates on him? I hope they find him soon.

OMG another St. James, MO missing person?

I realize none of the cases are connected (probably), but here on WS we already have missing persons cases from St. James for Jacquelyn (Jackee) L. Auten-Metz missing since May 30, 2015, and Amanda Caudill missing since December 14, 2014.

On another post I mentioned that the St. James 2010 pop. was only 4216, and it seemed strange to have two missing people from such a small place. Now we add another sad case to the mix :(

he was set on running away and heading towards St. Louis.

I wonder if the cousin knows where Johnathan was headed to in St. Louis? And why wouldn't the cousin tell an adult about this plan if he knew Johnathan had been missing before, and had been found in bad shape?

Wow after watching that video...my hinkey meter is off the charts!!!! Sounds like they are talking about a lost item not a child...sorry just my opinion...so sad

That's what I heard too then she laughs about something while mumbling...just strange...sadly this little guy is probably not alive...jmo

One month later: Johnathan Shay still missing

Sheriff Rick Lisenbe said their despite search efforts, deputies have had some setbacks in the investigation, "What hurts us is we haven't had legitimate sightings on this young man since he's been gone. And some of the sightings we found not to be truthful and it wasn't valid at all."

He said although there may be frustrations, they are not ready to give up on finding the boy. A new team of K-9's will be used within the next week to search the area. Lisenbe said detectives are optimistic there's still a clue out there that could lead them to Johnathan.

Lisenbe added, "This time we're gonna bring another K-9 unit in. They have called and asked us if they can assist and so we're gonna go ahead and work with them.
