Netflix to stream new documentary on Steven Avery

Additionally the Criminal Complaint against Brendan Dassey mentions that "items of restraint... including handcuffs and leg irons" were allegedly recovered from Steve Avery's residence -- and that handcuffs and leg irons were part of the description offered by (or, fed to, depending on case view) Brendan Dassey during his interviews/interrogations.

"Complainant is informed that during a search of the residence of Steven A. Avery, law enforcement located items of restraints within Avery's residence, including handcuffs and leg irons..."

"[Allegedly] Steven Avery then escorted Dassey into Steven's bedroom where Dassey observed Teresa Halbach lying face up on Steven Avery's bed. Dassey indicated that Teresa Halbach was nude and was restrained to the bed with handcuffs and leg irons..."

Do you think they just got lucky with Brendan, then? (I do think he was totally coerced and is probably innocent....not sure about Steve.)

Oh, it seems Brendan was Steven's alibi in the beginning, and that's why the family thinks they went after Brendan.

If you watch the confession/interrogation of Brendan, it is interesting. They had a confession expert go over his interrogation.

My heart sunk when Brendan asked during the interview if he would be taken back to school in time to finish his project. He seemed so feeble and innocent. I hope that he is really guilty and not being railroaded.

The whole thing is sooooo sketchy. Just watching now and very interested in the evidence left out of the doc as well. I believe coercion could have happened in any case. I will read the original threads on here. Interesting that the doc makes it seem as if Teresa could have killed herself based on her video where she states that if she dies that she had a good life. Again, sketchy...JMO

I very much want to watch this show but I'm not sure I can bear it. I work for the federal court in Wisconsin and have done some work on a few of Mr. Avery's cases (civil rights cases) and I just have a view of him that isn't even in the least bit good. And, I find Theresa's murder horrifying to the point that it makes me very uncomfortable to even think about. I'll have to work my way up to watching.

As to the concern you express about viewing the series. It is undeniably a ghastly and disturbing subject matter. However I would note too that there isn't much in the way of graphic imagery. There are verbal descriptions of horrible acts and some trace evidence such acts left behind, or may have left behind. It's still disturbing, no getting around it, but the imagery doesn't rise to the level of the sort of grisly crime scene pictures and autopsy photos that one encounters with other cases.

I've finished the series, and then I went to read the thread about it here. Didn't read the whole thing, but there were definitely things left out of the documentary like the fact that he purchased restraints just before the murder and he scheduled the appointment with Teresa using another name. (And that she had previously expressed discomfort going to the Avery residence.)

Most problematic for me with regard to whether or not these two committed this crime is the lack of Teresa's DNA anywhere on the property or even on her own car key. These two don't seem smart enough to have cleaned up so well as to leave no trace evidence.

the real problem for me is the missing blood. If her throat was cut in the room and she was shot in the garage. There was no blood visible on that mattress. Where did her blood go? That's one troubling part.

I agree, but did they just luck out when he came on their radar? I mean, if this was all set up, I doubt their original plan was to have TWO defendants.

The RAV 4 was found on the Avery property...if it were planted...how did no one notice, or even offer a possibility as to how it got there...? Vehicles make noise...people concealing vehicles with other vehicle parts make noise or otherwise make their presence known...

The thing with the evidence in the old threads of this case is that imo you can't look at it. I don't buy any of it. It's all so corrupt. After seeing Brendan's own lawyer have investigators try to get him to confess, the stuff with the fiancée being banned from the property, the car not being crushed... no.

Theresa Halbach hasn't received any justice at all. And her brother kinda creeps me out.

I don't know the details yet of her case. There was no blood? Maybe she was taken to a funeral home where they remove blood from the body and then she was cremated. Did LE have friends at the funeral parlor? Sorry if this idea sounds ridiculous. I still need to get through all of the episodes and the details of the cases in general.

I do not understand your reluctance to watch the Netflix documentary.

The car wasn't crushed but it was still on their property... How did no one notice it being planted?
