They were such a quiet couple. I had seen them about but they did not come to local events. It is very sad

The last murder in the village was in the same road - in 1858 so no connection.

AQ described by neighbours as

a gun-obsessed loner who has previously bragged that he could kill someone and dispose of them in a barrel.

Police are seeking a European arrest warrant for AQ, who may be using a previous alias, Marco Costa. He is believed to be a Kosovan refugee. They deny yesterday's press story that he had been involved with SP's stepmother:

He said there was no evidence to support reports that Qazimaj had a relationship with the mother of the Stuarts’ son-in-law. “That is bizarre. We have got nothing at all which corroborates that in any way,” he said.

He said police were investigating the places where Qazimaj worked for clues as to Sylvia Stuart’s whereabouts. “He was forklift truck driver in the Purfleet area. We are trying to get as much information as we can do about places he may have worked from past employees etc to try and understand potentially where Sylvia may be.”

They think it increasingly likely that Sylvia has also been killed.

I was hoping Sylvia had indeed run off with this Ali guy, that she was escaping a bad marriage. But it seems the police think she's dead too.

AQ obviously isn't co operating; he's appealing against extradition from Luxembourg, although I can't imagine he'll succeed:

A significant update to the case: SIL has been released without charge.

Detectives investigating exactly what occurred have now released him from his requirement to answer bail and at this stage of the investigation there is no evidence linking him with the murders

AQ is now calling himself Vital Dapi and thinks there is a conspiracy against him. I'm starting to wonder if this may be a case of mental illness (paranoid schizophrenia or similar).

The trial will take place in January.

Ali Qazimaj, of no fixed abode, also known as Marco Costa and Vidal or Vital Dapi, was charged with two counts of murder on Friday 22 July. He was due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court today, Friday 19 August, for a further hearing but refused to leave his cell. Not guilty pleas were entered in his absence.

Still no sign of Sylvia's body, sadly.
