Deceased/Not Found Canada - Lyle, 78, & Marie McCann, 77, Alberta, 5 July 2010 #2 *T. Vader guilty*

It's possible that the McCann's spontaneously dropped dead and Vader was merely an opportunistic bystander who took their belongings, but that does not explain the bullet hole in Mr McCann's hat. Ridiculous theories should not be tolerated in Canadian courts.
BBM - Or on crime forums. :drumroll:

Oh, oh - Vader's testimony is shifting!

He has refused to allow video from the strip search and alleged wrist injury to be admitted to court, he did not tell anyone about his alleged "broken wrist" when it allegedly happened, and during the strip search the door was open for 35 seconds and no one walked by the door.

He murdered a vulnerable, elderly couple, and now he is lying about mistreatment to gain sympathy ... typical criminal.
BBM - I think he broke his own wrist by punching the wall in his cell and I see the prosecutor feels the same way.

On Thursday Crown prosecutor Ashley Finlayson suggested in court Vader punched a cell wall.

Vader admitted: "I got frustrated one day with guards taking stuff out of my cell."

There is no evidence that his wrist was actually broken because he never had an x ray.
The court is just suppose to take TV's word for it.

Yeah, and yet everybody else is expected to be held to a much higher standard.

I can not agree more about the ridiculous theories.
I also wonder what the motive of TV's lawyer is with allowing TV to make these ridiculous claims of abuse. The lawyer had to know that there was evidence to refute TV's statements?

Indeed. A silly lawyer who presents false testimony and ludicrous theories on behalf of his client risks his own reputation, and that of the law profession. Hopefully the law society is keeping an eye on the lawyer to ensure that he does not damage the reputation of lawyers - as that is a factor when practicing law in many Canadian provinces.

Interesting article! It looks like he burned down the family home as well as burning vehicles - fire to hide evidence and for financial gain over and over again.

Yes, I thought it was quite an informative article. Also interesting, that his father expressed his desire that TV be arrested, and warned people to report him to police. Sad, but it seems he knew his son all too well.

Police constable debunks Vader's claim strip search was 'humiliating'

A constable involved in the strip search of Travis Vader in 2010 at the Edson RCMP detachment told an Edmonton courtroom he was just following instructions from a superior officer. Const. Steven McQueen, with the Edmonton serious crimes unit, testified at Vader's sentencing hearing Monday that he and another officer brought Vader to an empty cell where they proceeded to "secure his clothes as potential evidence."
They searched for weapons and drugs, McQueen said, then gave Vader a fresh T-shirt, sweatpants and socks to wear as they put his clothes in an evidence bag.
Vader was naked for less than a minute in a quiet cell with nobody else around, McQueen said, suggesting the search was routine and requested by a superior.

EDMONTON -- A judge has sentenced a man to life in prison for killing two Alberta seniors who disappeared on a camping trip.

Travis Vader was found guilty of manslaughter last fall in the deaths of Lyle and Marie McCann, who were in their 70s when they vanished after leaving their home in St. Albert, just north of Edmonton, in July 2010.

Court of Queen's Bench Justice Denny Thomas dismissed a defence submission that Vader should get a lesser sentence because his rights were violated in custody. He did, however, agree to a defence request that Vader serve his sentence in British Columbia because of threats he has received.

"When the judge said life imprisonment, it was a huge relief," McCann said. "I would have gone anywhere to hear that."

Yes it is absurd. But it only says he'd be eligible to apply, one can hope he'd be denied. His record for staying out of trouble when free is not good. And he has a history of drug abuse. To allow him unescorted freedom would give him far too much opportunity to re-offend or abuse drugs.
I hope I'm right, that any application would be denied.

I hope so to if for no other reason that to give the McCann family a chance to catch their breath.

Oh geez. Please, help this family grieve and move past this. I can’t imagine how hard this has been for them.
