No.

If a nice old man chooses to drink and drive habitually, is charged three times, and does not take his recovery seriously, he should not be free to drive the same roads as my small children.

Allowing him to take their lives or the lives of other precious little ones if he continued to ignore the courts would be the true injustice.

Hard to say. If his place is paid off and he has a relative who can keep the property taxes up, there likely won't be a problem, assuming his health remains. He'll likely be going to a facility with in house rehabilitation services, so his health may actually improve. This might be the best thing that could happen to him, all things considered.

He should still have his retirement pensions still coming in so hopefully that will cover his costs. He has family so perhaps they will help get the house ready for rental and that would more than help, I hope.

I can read into it. Refusing to take responsibility for his violating laws and probation and blaming the murders landing in his backyard for his troubles. IMO He broke the law, whether he got caught as an aside to the law breaking.

I also wonder about the obstruction charge being dropped if the prosecutor didn't want to have to reveal more than they're prepared to at this time. JMO

I wish there was audio/video so we could hear the inflection in his voice when he said that. But just from reading his statement-- it reeks of contempt and sarcasm.

Seems that might clear up the "smoke, plastic bag, periscope, canine, machine gun" hanging out of the top of his jacket. Some sort of scarf, apparently.

I'm more apt to think those are goggles and not a scarf. Something like this:

Maybe that judge saved someone else from death at the willful habitual offender's future thumbing his nose at the law. He got a deal with probation and he didn't keep his side of that deal. Why would getting an ankle bracelet stop his habitual offending? He can't keep his promises and the public should demand habitual offenders be punished for their behavior. IMO

His lawyer should ask that he just wear an electronic tag. I cannot FTLOM see what purpose is served keeping him in jail.

I totally agree with this. I sort of thought, and hoped, that's what would be what the sentence would be.

HE would get less time for some of the violent crimes we read about here. Take his truck away, monitor him, somethhing else. Our criminal justice system is backwards with addiction and non violent crimes.

It's weird how people don't see a bill on his hat , as on page one , post 5 and video 2 that looks like a baseball cap to me. It's as clear as day to me he is wearing a baseball cap front forward.


I find it funny how we all perceive things so differently when looking at the same image.

It's like the Blue or Gold dress all over again

It's the same as how we all have different opinions of RL and his sentence. This is why we have juries usually.

Trying to not read to much into this..but what an odd statement IMOO!

That is odd...
.. All I can think is that as a poster said above if it hadnt been for the girls murders he may not have been found out. Doesnt take away he was breaking the terms of his previous sentence. And at the end of the day he is a serial drink driver.. not sure people would be calling him a harmless old man if he mowed down someones child, parent.. or partner.

He's blown the leniency he was given with probation by violating the terms. How many chances does or should someone get before they're allowed to kill someone? I don't care if it's addiction because I don't want him or anyone like him on my roads with my family. IMO

Interesting. A scarf could be all the weapon BG would need.

I also wondered if he had a pipe (not smoking) of some sort in his pocket. He could have told them to go down the hill then hit them and rendered them unconscious. Just a thought.

The lacks of additional details is driving me crazy.

I know that RL was sentenced to 3.5 years but I wonder how long before he "could be out?"

In other words, often one can receive a sentence but not have to expect to serve the full term.

Maybe on a 3.5 year sentence he might be looking at getting out, say, in 6 months? Maybe that is why he pleaded guilty and took the plea deal?

Because honestly, if that maximum sentence was four years, and if he has to serve all 3.5, why not take your chances and plead "not guilty."

So, I am thinking that although that was his sentence, what was the "plea deal" arrangement?

One of the things I have wondered from the get-go and you are probably a great one to ask: how loud would you estimate the creek to be at those levels?

There is a video of the search at night on the 13th on WLFI Youtube at one point in that video about the 1:45 mark you can hear the creak in the audio of the video. Can't tell how far away from the creek that video was taken but I think it wasn't all that far.

And that's great, but the truth is, him sitting in jail will not do a thing to change whatever drives his behavior and he will be back in the community and on the roads and in the bars and liquor stores in three years. If he lives that long.

You can't punish people into sobriety and emotional and psychological health.
