Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell dead at 52 (wrongful death charges against Dr. Robert Koblin) 2017

I didn't know about his body guard being in his room to fix his computer and then the body guard gave him the Ativan. Everything happened so fast. I don't know what to think.

According to a police report obtained by The Detroit News, the Soundgarden frontman sounded "groggy," and kept repeating "I am just tired," in his last phone call with his wife.

The police report states that Cornell's bodyguard, Martin Kirsten, was in Cornell's room at around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday to help him fix his computer, after which Kirsten gave Cornell two Ativan pills, which the musician "takes for anxiety."

Vicky told police that she spoke with her husband at around 11:35 p.m., and at 12:15 a.m., called Kirsten to ask him to check on Cornell, "to see if he is alright, because he did not sound like he is OK." Vicky told Kirsten that Cornell repeated, 'I am just tired,' before hanging up the phone, the report says.

The police report states that Kirsten arrived at Cornell's room at the MGM Grand Hotel just after midnight on Thursday, only to find the door locked.

I just read this too. This is the same body guard that dated Heidi Klum. He also was the body guard who captured Cornell's longtime stalker (who had cut off her ankle monitor to get to his show) and managed to get on stage to propose to Chris. http://pagesix.com/2016/07/07/heidi-klums-ex-saves-chris-cornell-from-alleged-stalker/

When the bodyguard, Martin Kirsten, went to Room 1136 in the MGM Grand Hotel just after midnight Thursday, the door was locked, the report said. Kirsten kicked the door open, only to find a second door leading to the bedroom suite also was latched — so, the report said, he kicked that door open, too.
The bodyguard found Cornell slumped on the bathroom floor, “with blood running from his mouth and a red exercise band around (his) neck,” said the report, filed by officers from the Detroit Police Gaming Unit who responded to the scene.

Kirsten walked two doors down to Cornell’s suite, to which he had a key, but found the door latched, the report said. “(Kirsten) called security from hotel phone in hallway ... stating he needs to get into (the) room to check on (the) victim,” the report said.
“Security stated they can not let him into the room because he is not registered to that room,” the report said. “At this time (Kirsten) kicked in the door with his feet and ... went to the bedroom door and (the) latch had been engaged on this door also.
“(Kirsten) again called for security but could not gain access to (the) room,” the report said. “At this time (Kirsten) kicked in (the) bedroom door and found victim laying on the bathroom floor.”
MGM medic Dawn Jones arrived at the room at 12:56 a.m., the report said. “Jones untied the red exercise band from (the) victim’s neck and began CPR on (Cornell, who) was not breathing.”
EMS Unit 42 was at the scene by 1 a.m. An emergency medical technician also unsuccessfully performed CPR on Cornell, according to the report.

A slightly different version where Chris takes his own Ativan. It seems he must've been acting really out of it or said something strange or out of character for his wife to pick up on the danger that fast. I feel so sorry for his family.

Cornell's wife Vicky added in the new statement that Chris spoke with her before his Detroit show on Wednesday night and "discussed plans for a vacation over Memorial Day and other things we wanted to do."

She said that later, after the show, he was "slurring his words; he was different," when she spoke to him. She said she wants to wait on the results of toxicology tests before drawing any conclusions.

"When he told me he may have taken an extra Ativan or two, I contacted security and asked that they check on him," she said. "What happened is inexplicable, and I am hopeful that further medical reports will provide additional details. I know that he loved our children and he would not hurt them by intentionally taking his own life."

“At 1:30AM on 5/18/2017, victim was pronounced dead (by a doctor who came to the scene),” the report said.

Homicide detectives arrived at the room and began their investigation, while another officer phoned Cornell’s wife to break the news he’d been found dead.

“Victim’s wife ... stated victim is a recovered drug addict,” the report said.

About the Ativan, according to the news report of the police report -
Kirsten gave Cornell two Ativan pills -

According to the police report, Kirsten was in Cornell’s room about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday to help him fix his computer. Afterward, Kirsten gave Cornell two Ativan pills, “which victim takes for anxiety,” the report said.
Vicky Cornell told police she spoke by phone with her husband about 11:35 p.m., according to the report.
At 12:15 a.m. Thursday, Vicky Cornell phoned Kirsten and asked him to check on her husband, “to see if he is allright because he did not sound like he is okay,” the report said. Vicky Cornell told the bodyguard her husband sounded “groggy and just kept saying, ‘I am just tired,’ and hung up the phone.”

I took Ativan one time for inner ear problem. The room was spinning and dizzy couldn't hold my head up was nauseous.Worst I ever felt in my life. They gave me Ativan it helped right away.I only had a small amount of pills and took as directed. It made me feel happy and relaxed. Not really sleepy but I guess it depends on the dosage and the amount you take.I looked up the side effects and suicidal can be one of them.I watched his last show on You Tube,he definitely acted strange and looked very thin.I just wonder if he relapsed and was drinking too.I am surprised they prescribed this to him, because he was a recovering addict. One question I have is why did the body guard give him two Ativan if he was out of it. I also thought bodyguards would be trained to give CPR.To note he was one of my favorite musicians and still in shock

Why would he have an exercise band? To shoot up? Weird. JMO

I take Ativan for sudden anxiety attacks. I'm on the lowest dosage and only as needed. I have taken a few too many at time when I just felt my anxiety wasn't leaving. I just get mellow and sleepy. Scary to think what can happen.

Sorry to hear about people's troubles with anxiety and such. xo

Hopefully after the mourning process his family will open up and tell everything that was going on with him to help others in the same situation. Right now they are COMPLETELY putting the sole blame on 2 Ativan pills. What was his financial situation? Was he only doing these shows because he had mounting bills and got no enjoyment out of it? It's really a shame he couldn't find someone he could spill his guts to and get some help. :(

I wonder what his dosage was. Mine are .5 mg. My doc said I could take two if needed. I've only ever taken one.

Chris Cornell Net Worth
$60 Million
[…]
Born Christoper John Boyle on July 20, 1964 in Seattle, Washington to Ed Boyle and Karen Cornell, Chris suffered from severe anxiety as a young man, and used music as a tool to control it.

. . . his net worth is mostly due to writing music, and not his band’s performances. Chris Cornell has scored music for several big movies, including Casino Royal and The Avengers.

First off, as a 90s rock kid this is totally sad. Soundgarden wasn't my favorite band but they still were awesome and unique musically from the rest. Audioslave was great as well.

I'm quite shocked and don't really know what to think. He played a sold out show and killed himself shortly after. Total contrast from say, Kurt Cobain, who was totally estranged from everyone, missing for days, using drugs constantly and eventually ended his life at home.

I don't think you can solely blame this on Ativan. This is a benzodiazepine, same class as Xanax - tranquilizer if you will, that helps with anxiety. Suicidal behavior is not common and taking a slightly higher dose is more or less going to make you a bit more tired.

IMO, him voluntarily taking (or asking someone else) an extra Ativan or two was likely to put him at ease before taking his own life. Cobain had Valium (same class of drugs) among other things in his system at his time of death as well. I think it's the same case here - he made up his mind and wanted to be calm in his final moments.

Though with Cobain, his death was far less puzzling - he was addicted to heroin, battled depression, lost family members to suicide etc.

Chris Cornell on the other hand seemed happy by all accounts, drug free, actively touring with his band. It kind of makes you wonder if maybe this is another Robin Williams type situation where perhaps he saw a doctor and they made a startling discovery and he realized his days were numbered. Or maybe his family life was bad, his marriage was shaky. Financial issues maybe. I'm at loss, he seemed to be very active musically so I'm curious how this will unfold.

I'm on the same. I know I've been given 1mg before in health care situations.
I have done some weird stuff. I did have a glass of wine and some Ativan. (Don't recommend-was a bad time) I did some weird things like I threw out a fresh pizza we ordered with only one slice gone.
I dumped the morning smoothie leftovers from the blender into the veggie crisper.
In the morning I had no recollection of what happened. Needless to say I don't drink wine anymore and never take Ativan of I have had wine. Jmo. Sharing my Ativan adventure.

I totally wondered the same regarding whether maybe he was sick/dying. But I still just cannot wrap my head around him not leaving a note or something. He truly loved his family. His Facebook was always about his kids and of course his music. Idk.

If his wife contacted the bodyguard at 12:15 and he was only 2 doors down and found Chris shortly after.....why did it take the hotel EMT person til 1am to show up? And why didn't the bodyguard remove the band in that 30min?

If I was that bodyguard I wouldn't have touched anything. It doesn't take a medical examiner to know someone is dead. I think the bodyguard knew he was dead and there was no hope. I honestly don't know. Just my opinion.
