Identified! Australia - Preston, Vic, WhtMale, 40, in wheelie bin, May'17 - Ashley Phillips

Victorian Police are seeking public help to identify the body of a:

• Male of caucasian appearance,
• 171cm tall with a medium build,
• dark hair and unshaven face,
• aged approx. 40 years old,
• wearing a distinctive Kpop boy band "Big Bang 2015 Word tour" tshirt, grey/blue Everlast tracksuit pants and black Nike runners.

The mans body was discovered by a garbage collector in a wheelie bin at the intersection of Young and Butler streets in the Melbourne suburb of Preston.

From the Herald Sun:
It appears the bin doesn’t come from where it was picked up.
“A resident from the street has observed the bin in the street and has rung up the council.
“The circumstances of the death are being treated as suspicious.
Police would not comment on the condition of the body.
Police said they are still “canvassing neighbours” and investigations remain ongoing as they comb the crime scene for clues and try to find CCTV footage from neighbouring properties.
Neighbours tell the Herald Sun bin night is usually on Monday."

The wheelie bin in which the body was found has a 7 painted on the side.

Detective Sergeant Butterworth said the truck was making a special pick-up after a call from a neighbour about an abandoned bin.
"The bin is not from the immediate area from where the pick-up was made," he said.
"A resident in the street has observed the bin in the street and has rung up the council and asked for a pick-up."

As someone who is a resident of Melbourne, I am trying so hard to identify the logo on the bin to see if it gives way to any clues.

Since the picture is far away, the only two council logos that are slightly close (i.e. similar shape) are City of Yarra and City of Darebin.

I am fairly certain, from another image of the bin, that I read Darebin.

It is a 44yo man from Broadmeadows.

"they have now identified him as a 44-year-old man from Broadmeadows in Melbourne's north, a little over 10 kilometres away from where he was found dead. Police have not yet released the man's name."

They've identified him - but no name released yet.


POLICE have identified a man whose body was found dumped in a bin in Preston on Saturday.

Investigators have identified the man as a 44-year-old from Broadmeadows.

They continue to treat his death as suspicious and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police have charged two people relating to the murder of Ashley Phillips. A 35 year old man, from Preston, has been charged with his murder and a 26 year old woman, from Preston, has been charged with being an accessory.
