Perhaps laying the groundwork for a defense strategy, attorneys for the 19-year-old Ray Township man accused of killing a longtime friend and dismembering his body say he suffers from Aspberger’s syndrome and bi-polar disorder.

Defense attorney David Griem, who is now representing Andrew Fiacco, made the disclosure Tuesday following a probable cause conference in 42-1 District Court.

Fiacco is charged with the homicide of Stephen McAfee and burying his body parts in two graves in rural Macomb County. Griem said McAfee also was diagnosed with some of the same disorders as Fiacco.

“I think it’s important the public know that these two young men who knew each other since about kindergarten, and both were fighting some of the same demons,” he said.

Of course he does.. Seems like 99% of teenagers these days are depressed, bi-polar, manic-depressive, on the autism spectrum, or have anxiety disorders. (let's not forget all of the allergies)

David Griem is the original attorney that represented Bob Bashara, as well as Steven Grant.
Two high profile cases for Metro Detroit, but it looks like he subsequently resigned from BOTH of them...
1st case, he bailed before Grant was even arrested. 2nd case, he admitted he and Bashara couldn't agree on case strategy.

If I'm not mistaken, it seems like these cases would have been a pretty nice sized paycheck! So now I'm wondering, is this something that Defense Attorneys OFTEN do?

ROMEO, Mich. - Disturbing details emerged the last time Andrew Fiacco and his ex-girlfriend were in court for charges in connection with Stephen McAfee's death and dismemberment.

McAfee went missing from his Macomb Township home in March 2016. Detectives searched for any sign of him as they followed up on tips. Posters were placed around the community and even a private investigator was hired to help figure out what happened to the 19-year-old. But the case went cold...*

I managed to put 2 and 2 together and came to the realization that my "work husband" (male bff/coworker, for clarification!) is sitting on this jury!
Man, I wish he could discuss it!
Funny thing is, we got our Jury Duty paperwork at the same time, but he returned his a week before me.

She looks very familiar to me, but I can't put a finger on why...
Her face (and even the first name!) resembles a co-worker I had about 15 years ago.

Appeals court to decide issue in Ray Township murder, dismemberment

POSTED: 01/22/18, 7:07 PM EST

Andrew Fiacco, 20, appeared for his arraignment Monday in front of Judge Jennifer Faunce in Macomb County Circuit Court, where a not-guilty plea was entered for him for the death of Stephen McAfee, 19, nearly two years ago.

.......

One of Fiacco’s two attorneys, Kristina Joseph, was granted an adjournment by Faunce due to the appeals court agreeing to consider whether Fiacco’s statements to police should be dismissed from the case on constitutional grounds. Joseph said they are also asking the appeals court for a stay in the case.

Faunce scheduled the next hearing for April 19, while Fiacco remains held without bond in the county jail.
