So, I have a question??? How does this guy go undetected with those weapons in his hotel room? Did the cleaning crew notice anything? Would they not report " Hey this guy has 10 weapons in his room?"

Something doesn't sit well here with me, and I can't put my finger on it.

I am always so astonished how in certain cases people are so quick to claim someone just HAS to be mentally ill? It's become way too common in "certain" cases and I'm honestly sick of it! He is a terrorist! Like any and all who came before him! There are no excuses and it is what he is! And like most of them... he was a coward and killed himself! It really is that simple.

My sister and brother-in-law were there and they will never be the same. Last night while frantically trying to get a hold of them, I had their children! I tried with everything I had in my body to remain calm for them. It was their first time being away as a married couple (even though it was for work) in 23 years! Today they are standing in line to donate blood (especially since my sister is 0 negative).

I really wish people would stop making excuses for these monsters. That is what they are. Monsters.

Glad to hear that your sister & BIL are safe.

I don't think that people are making excuses when they discuss possible mental illness, but rather that they are looking at why this happened. There's always the hope that if you can determine why something happens, you may be able to determine how to stop similar acts in the future.

OMG, YES! Listen, if the shooter is a Muslim, the shooting is terrorism; if the shooter is a black man, it's used to inflame racial hate and division. Oh, but is a white male, so it's a lone wolf, mentally ill that just snapped. Sickening!

At one of the press conferences today, they said they didn't know yet if housekeeping had been in there. Maybe the do not disturb card was on all the time. Maybe he had everything in locked suitcases.

First, weapons are not outlawed in Vegas. Second, housekeeping is not allowed to go through a guest's things. If they were in bags, such as golf bags or suitcases, housekeeping would have no idea what's in the luggage.

I missed the last 10 pages or so of this so sorry if this brought up. I kinda think this guy was into guns for a long time now.. No one learns to fly so they can hunt in Alaska without being a gun person..

Antisocial personality disorder (being a sociopath or psychopath) is NOT a mental illness. It is a personality disorder. No amount of therapy or medication will treat someone with this. Please stop getting the two confused.

I was saying that as well. While mental illness can be heredity I do not believe personality disorder are. However he was diagnosed in the 60s when mental health was not what it is today. Back in the day when women were diagnosed with hysteria.

It is a Mental Illness. It is a Cluster B Personality Disorder, diagnosable in The DSM-V. The manual used to Diagnose mental illness and psychiatric disorders by psychiatrists, clinical social workers, psychologists and mental health professionals every single day. You do not have to exclusively acutely psychotic and disorganized to be mentally ill.

I am far from confused. Promise.

And he likes to "go big," He's not just a hunter, but a hunter in Alaska. He's not just a gambler, but a high-stakes gambler. He's not just a killer, but a mass killer.

Ugh.

Some mental illnesses can make someone a monster. It's not an excuse.

I'm not saying one way or another if this shooter was mentally ill, by the way. I don't think we know enough at this point to tell.

You have to understand where I am coming from when I made my comment. There are "certain" cases where people are automatically labeled as "****s" and "terrorists" without any other thought and then you have cases like "this" where people will try so hard not to label it for what it is. It's like there "has" to be some reason to explain away his actions. You have people already trying to bring up his childhood and his dad being in prison, etc... isn't that the same thing we hear about in 85% of the cases we read about here? But only "certain" cases seem to be allotted these exceptions...

Am I angry right now? I am furious! This is not the first time a family member of mine has been directly impacted by a mass shooting. My cousin was shot (and lived) in a College Campus shooting just a few years ago.

I'm venting right now and yes, I know I am. Maybe I should not even be posting right now, but I am just plain sick of it all right now.

This is not directed at you or anyone else here and I do apologize for venting.

Wonder if law enforcement will mandate an autopsy and brain study to see if something pathological could have caused
this?
Something like a tumor on the amygdala or another area that controls behavior could have manifested and caused this.
Or he's just evil.

I'm assuming we'll see hotel lobby video at some point, but I don't think it would raise any flags to someone to be carrying in large bags to a hotel. There are luggage carts in hotel lobbies for the very reason that people bring in large pieces of luggage, bags, etc.

Luggage holding 19 firearms is going to be rather bulky and heavy. If reports that the shooter had over 4,000 rounds of ammunition are true the ammo alone would weigh over 100 lbs.

We are living in tough times and you have experienced especially tough times. It's not easy.

No need to apologize for your venting.

I don't doubt the bags were big, bulky, and heavy. I'm just saying that if hotel staff notices a guest with big bags coming in the lobby, they aren't going to ask what is in them.

Good comment! Also more personal info, married twice, divorced twice, NO children, uncommunicative with numerous
neighbors current and past, but what doesn't fit is his profession (accountant or auditor). Wonder if he was a dominant,
authoratative personality since his girlfriend was a small, tiny Asian, high limit hostess at a casino.

Las Vegas shooting: Killer bought more than 30 weapons, source says

Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock bought more than 30 weapons and had more than a dozen stashed in his hotel room as he carried out the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, Fox News learned Monday.

The deadly cache included converted, fully automatic AR-15 style assault rifles with high capacity magazines, according to a law enforcement source. The weaponry suggests Paddock passed numerous FBI background checks.

The source said police found between 11 and 15 guns in his hotel room.

Vegas is also the land of mind-your-own-business. "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." That's the whole allure of Sin City. So I wouldn't be surprised to hear that people did see an old man struggling with bulky, heavy bags and didn't pay it any mind.

Not to mention. He's an old white man, nobody really ever suspects that type of person of nefarious activity. JMO.

I remember watching a tv show about a case at a Texas college. The man had a brain tumor.
At the time we saw the show, my father in law had a brain tumor too. My husband immediately went and took all the guns from the home.
To say that I hope this is the case with this man sounds so wrong, but in my mind it is the only scenario that would make me understand why he did such a thing!

GLIOBSTOMA MULTIFORME;
He had a tumor the size of a peach in his brain.
Interestingly Charles Whitman had gambling issues too.

Believe me I am not trying to make any excuses for this murderer. I am trying to figure out what caused him to murder all the people.

Heck maybe he was just a mean old buzzard who lost all his money and decided to take it out on everyone. Nobody knows for sure yet. Or at least I havent seen it stated as fact anywhere what this murderers deal was.
