GUILTY TX - Officer Floyd East, 48, fatally shot, Lubbock, 9 Oct 2017 *Arrest*

Our police, the LAPD are often criticized for frisking almost everyone, and cuffing people, even for initial discussions, not arrests. :cop:

But I do understand why they do that. They never know if that one citizen is going to pull out a weapon and shoot them in the face.

I'd like to wipe that smirk off his face in his mugshot. How dare he? Trying to load link to pic from my phone is not working.

Ciao

The Texas Tech student who shot and killed a campus police officer was suicidal, his mother told campus officials, prompting the dorm room visit that led to a fatal shooting by the student. The shooting came after Hollis Daniels's mother called the school and ask someone to check on her son, and one of Daniels' suitemates reported "odd behavior" from the 19-year-old college student.

Daniels was not in his room when campus police arrived at the college dormitory, University spokesman Chris Cook told Newsweek. It is unclear how many officers were on the welfare check. "They went to the room, and the suspect wasn't there, but they found drug paraphernalia," Cook said.

It is unclear when and where the officer or officers eventually encountered Daniels, who was then driven to the campus police station for a "standard debriefing" stemming from the welfare check, Cook said.

I hate to say it, but they should have just let him commit suicide. So many murderers in cases we read about here have attempted suicide in the past, or commit suicide after taking another life/other lives that I'm losing compassion for people who are suicidal.

I do pity his parents, who were so worried about his mental status that they contacted LE. Of course, it wasn't the parents' fault for worrying about their son, but now they will carry guilt with them the rest of their lives. They are victims, too, and IMO it was HD's intent to harm them emotionally. MOO

"Cook could not confirm whether the gun belonged to Daniels or if he acquired it within the station.Cook could not say if the campus police station has metal detectors. And he declined to speak about the Texas Tech police search procedures that somehow failed to detect that Daniels was armed."

I wonder.

Also from newsweek:
Texas implemented a "campus carry law," in August, which allows students over 21 to carry a concealed handgun in classrooms, dormitories and other locations on campus.

As a 19-year-old, Daniels would not have met the age limit, and Cook said he does not believe there are any exceptions in place that would have legally allowed Daniels to carry a weapon on campus.

Society just gets smarter and smarter.....

You can bet your *advertiser censored* he's not the only one doing it either.

college students+alcohol+drugs+guns

sounds like a great recipe....

Tuesday, 3:10 p.m. update: Texas Tech University officials have identified the university police officer shot and killed Monday night as Officer Floyd East Jr.

East, 48, is survived by his wife and two daughters, university officials said. He began his career with the Texas Tech Police Department in 2014 as a guard at the university’s Health Sciences Center in El Paso. While working as a guard, East attended the El Paso Community College Law Enforcement Academy to obtain his peace officer license.

"Might have a weapon?" How would the mother know unless they gave it to him.He is not old enough to buy one.

It has been stated that he contacted them and said he was going to kill himself with a gun (paraphrasing) and they obviously became scared and called TTPD to go check on him. Honestly and truthfully, as I have stated I have a son who is a freshman at this school, thank god he was in his dorm studying. But I can say, I didn’t raise him to do or think drugs are ok, he knows not to use a gun except when he is hunting or in a life or death situation. I have no blame for the parents, we all send our children off to school believing we have done the best to teach, instill morals and values, and to have them become upstanding citizens. It’s been said the gun was stolen from a friend of a friend. I have no reason to believe anyone knew this could or would happen, nor do I think his parents could have stopped him. I do hope that they use this senseless act as a learning situation, when a student is being transported PERIOD they should always be searched and cuffed, just for the safety if for nothing else.

Reports of a gunshot and drugs brought Texas Tech police officers to the dorm room of a 19-year-old freshman now charged in the Oct. 9 shooting death of a campus police officer, according to search warrants released this week at the Lubbock County Courthouse.

The documents reveal more details about Hollis Daniels’ encounter with police before and after the killing of Tech police Officer Floyd East Jr.

The documents filed by a Lubbock police detective state East, Cpl. Tyler Snelson and Lt. Mark Haney were called earlier on the evening of Oct. 9 to the Talkington residence hall after a gunshot was reported from a dorm room. Tech police also received a report that drugs were being used and sold in the dorm room. It was unclear in the affidavits who called police about the gunshot and the drugs.
