Broward County sheriff's officials said in a statement late Saturday that they responded only to 23 calls involving suspected Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz or his family over the years, but records obtained by BuzzFeed News show at least 45 responses since 2008.
//
On Saturday night, the Broward County Sheriff's Office released a statement pushing back on reports that they had been called more than the 23 incidents released by the department.

"Since 2008, BSO responded to 23 incidents where previous contact was made with the killer or his family,"*the sheriff's office said in its statement. "STOP REPORTING 39; IT'S SIMPLY NOT TRUE."

The Broward County Sheriff's Office did not respond to BuzzFeed News' questions about the additional calls, or how it determined to include the 23 calls that were disclosed to the public, but not the others.

Why are the BCSO continuously lying? This is serious malfeasence.

Did the Snead’s appear on Dr. Phil? I haven’t researched it yet, wanted to ask first.

Dr. Phil McGraw will turn to the Parkland school shooting in two episodes of “Dr. Phil” this week. The Wednesday show is titled “The Valentine’s Day Tragedy; Profile of an Accused School Shooter.”

~snip

The guests in the studio for Wednesday’s show include James and Kimberly Snead and their son J.T., the family that took in accused shooter Nikolas Cruz; Ethan Trieu, a 17-year-old acquaintance of Cruz and a Stoneman Douglas student; and Cruz’s Spanish teacher, Alicia Blonde.

That article was published on Feb. 20 so I believe the shows were last week.

So low risk environments might include schools?

I suppose. ?? The commenter also mentioned another way these 'not courageous' LE officers drag their feet confronting

armed offenders is they somehow 'get lost' on their way to crime scene, or they dally getting there. I guess LE are

just human with all the same fears and emotions.

If you go to you tube and search The Dr. Phil Show many interviews about this shooting are available.

You know it is getting bad when Catholic schools are involved:

Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School closed due to threats

Unlike public schools, Catholic schools can expel a student for making a threat like that.

Someone needs to tell the kids of America if they want to get their names in the papers, to start hitting the books and making the grade, get onto the Dean's List, all papers have it.

Good God.

Deputy accused of failing to act during school shooting releases statement, says he is no coward

Mr. Peterson initially “received a call of firecrackers — and not gunfire — in the area of the 1200 Building.”

In response to the firecracker call Mr. Peterson along “with Security Specialist Kelvin
Greenleaf exited the 100 Building and ran north the couple of hundred yards to the 1200
Building.”

Upon arriving at 1200 Building Mr. Peterson “heard gunshots but believed that those
gunshots were originating from outside of any of the buildings on the school campus.”

BSO trains its officers that in the event of outdoor gunfire one is to seek cover and assessthe situation in order to communicate what one observes to other law enforcement.

Consistent with his training, Mr. Peterson “took up a tactical position between the 700-800 buildings corridor/corner.”

Mr. Peterson was the first BSO officer to advise BSO dispatch that he heard shots fired.

Mr. Peterson “initiated a ‘Code Red’ lockdown of the entire school campus.”

“The first police officer that arrived on-scene was from the Coral Springs Police
Department.” Mr. Peterson informed this Coral Springs Police Officer that he “thought
that the shots were coming from outside.” This Coral Springs Police Officer took up a
tactical position (approximately twenty yards away from Mr. Peterson) behind a tree with
his rifle.

“Radio transmissions indicated that there was a gunshot victim in the area of the football
field,” which served to confirm Mr. Peterson’s belief “that the shooter, or shooters, were
outside.”

Mr. Peterson had the presence of mind to have the school administrators go to the school’s video room to review the closed-circuit cameras to locate the shooter and the obtain a description for law enforcement.

Mr. Peterson provided his keys to the Coral Springs SWAT team so that they could enter
the 1200 Building.

Mr. Peterson “provided BSO SWAT Command with handwritten diagrams of the entire
Stoneman Douglas campus for student evacuation.”

etc...

Mr. Peterson is looking forward to cooperating with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s investigation, which we hope will detail the events of that tragic day and which we believe will ultimately clear Mr. Peterson’s name

My heart is with all the children, teachers, staff and their families returning to school today. ❤️ It’s gotta be rough; I can’t even imagine.

This doesn't sound like an officer that was cowering in a corner. I realize this is his statement of his facts. It makes sense that he would not go into the building if he thought the gunshots were coming from outside. If the investigation shows that he did follow proper procedure believing the gunshots were coming from outside how does he ever get his life back?
If the investigation does show that he did nothing wrong then I believe the sheriff needs to be fired for endangering the officers life with his comments.
All just my opinion.

I heard an idea on the radio that I think is brilliant. Have schools a place where law enforcement can stop for thier breaks. They are entitled to meal breaks, and other breaks, why not have the schools a place to stop? Offer them good and drink (within reason) and a place to sit for thier breaks. More patrol cars would be visible on campus and if something were to happen, you might already have officers on the campus.
Any thoughts?

Good idea. Maybe offer free coffee and donuts.

I would go one further. Schools provide breakfast and lunch. Some even provide dinner. Maybe offer one those meals, with the stipulation it has to be eaten on the campus. No take out.

Why did they feel the need to paint him as a coward?

That's pretty soon to return to the scene, isn't it? Wouldn't students have severe PTSD?
wow. I don't think I could return, I'd consider online education at this point.

President Donald J. Trump criticizes officers' response to the Parkland, Florida, shooting. "The way they performed was frankly disgusting... I really believe I’d run in there even if I didn’t have a weapon."
