Laura Babcock Murder Trial - *GUILTY*

Dang, Justice code is hard t read. Just when you think it's consecutive, he's gives reasons for concurrent etc. jmo

I'm sure hoping it's a consecutive 25 years for both.

The judge is on point 6 of 8 now...

Ann Brocklehurst‏ @AnnB03
“4 repetition of 2 planned and deliberate murders requires deterrence for potential serial murderers”

“5/8 there are a number of aggravating circumstances including incineration, Smich’s boastful behaviour, Millard’s obstruction of justice”

“6/8 mitigating factors relied on to reduce culpability are not persuasive”

The fact that the offenders took trophy photos, boasted about the murders, and Millard tried to subvert justice system with letters from jail... all aggravating factors. #Bosma #Babcock

Mitigating factors here are "not persuasive." #Millard tried to prove there was a good side to his personality. "In my view Millard is skillful and clever at employing pro-social behaviour when it is to his advantage... but "he is profoundly amoral and dangerous."

Smich didn't have the same advantages growing up, but did have loving family. He was clearly "enthusiastically involved" in the murder of #LauraBabcock before and after its commission. "He was never reluctant... He was pleased and enthusiastic to participate in murder."

Jury was ambivalent about #Smich's sentence, compared to Millard, likely reflecting that Millard was the leader, however, #Smich was an enthusiastic follower "with complex reasons of his own," judge says law does not distinguish between these two roles in a murder.

Code is now talking about how the jury all wanted Millard to be sentenced consecutively. The jury was more torn on Smich. Code says that likely points to a view that Millard was the leader, and Smich was a follower.

That just downright irresponsible reporting, imo. Justice Code hasn't yet handed down the sentencing. The tweets being posted are live tweets.
