A closer look at the drop in the NRA's positive rating

In this morning's First Read, we wrote that the NRA's positive rating has dropped significantly since last year. According to our NBC/WSJ poll, more Americans now have a negative view of the pro-gun organization than a positive one for the first time since before 2000.

Shame to see adults attacking a teen. IMO

He is the one that has chosen to say the words he has. He is the one that has chosen to be a public figure. I cannot believe people try to make others feel guilty because of his age. I don't. He made his choice to become A public figure. IMO if he says things that people disagree with then he needs to be able to handle it, instead of intimidating people because of his age. I respect that he is a survivor, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with his comments.

What I don't understand is why people people believe that taking away the second admendment will cure our gun problem. It is not the legal gun owners doing the murders and reeking havoc on entire communities. Gun reform can be done without doing away with our 2nd admendment rights. The reform needed is ways of getting illegal guns and those that are illegally using them taken off the streets. Ones stealing legal guns need a far harsher sentence than someone stealing a tv from a home. Many, many ways to help get rid of our gun problem while at the same time allowing our 2nd admendment right to protect ourselves from the illegal guns.

They said they were using their recognition, which they believe they have due to their white privilege, to OPEN UP and SHARE the discussion, giving everyone an opportunity to share their views.

My last comment on this. He brought race into the gun reform issues. It is a United States problem. Not a race issue. Race baiting. IMO

I respect and have compassion for all of the survivors from Parkland. That is not in question. David Hogg is putting himself out there and making some pretty controversial statements. Statements that deserve rebuttal. IMO he doesn't get to say whaever he wants and no one is allowed to question his statemets because he is a survivor. Sure, his comments are abrasive. He can be abrasive. People can disagree with him.

But he’ll still speak truth to power. His POC peers are speaking out about the issue — Hogg is amplifying their voices.

No you don't have to agree with anything he or anyone else has to say. But I stand by my comment that the name calling and insults by adults are over the top and seriously disturbing.IMO

It's certainly heartening to see the advertisers use their power. Ms Ingraham sails way too close to the edge on most issues.. as does her employer..
Ultimately money talks and money censors and money abuses..

Children are being shot, adults are being shot, almost anybody can be shot at anytime for no reason whatsoever..
that's because guns are widely available, both legally and illegally.

do please recall that it was the nRA that trained the shooter, do please recall too that Junior NRA training entry is supposed to be given subject to mental state and psychological condition of trainee.

what? They never noticed or they never bothered?

He was a good shooter, he was proud of his shooting ability.. his membership of a deadly organisation ..
who fed and nurtured his skills?
who trained a young and broken mind and gave it confidence and fostered his interest and ability?

I don't doubt that both articles can be true. It does seem like thier ratings may be declining, but at the same time those that support them are willing to give more to support the organization.

Another online ad, for the Kel-Tec PMR-30 pistol, links to the company’s website, where the first three images that greet the reader are adult shooters holding assault rifles.[SUP]67

[/SUP]In January 2014, the NRA changed the title of NRA InSights to NRA Family InSights and switched to an online-only format for the magazine with accompanying website. In an editorial announcing the switch, the magazine promised, “In addition to the fun and informative content designed just for Junior members, we’ll be including articles, photos, reviews and news for everyone in your family — parents, grandparents, and other family members.”

An article titled “My First .22 Pistol” offers reassurance to those wanting to introduce children to guns: “Fortunately for you, there are many people — neighbors, coaches, competitors, sales staff — who want to encourage youth shooters and turn them into lifelong firearms enthusiasts and Second Amendment advocates.” The article notes that a young person’s first pistol may come from brothers or sisters, or a “hand-me-down from someone you meet at the shooting range.”[SUP]72 73

I never gave my opinion on the NRA raising funds. I posted a link that shows for or against the NRA there is an increase in thier donations.

Sure, but there is a way to do that without calling him an ill mannered opportunist and a possible shill.
Keep in mind he is 17 and isn't going to be a polished speaker and that is a good thing.IMO
One poster said he made a choice, and I suppose that is true,but I think given a real choice he would rather be your average teen without all that he and others are shouldering.
I can't even imagine the stress levels they must be dealing with for speaking out.
