Ancestry and 23andMe both have transparency reports that show whether there has been any cases of DNA for law enforcement. They will not provide DNA without a warrant. Sometimes people use the DNA results from Ancestry and 23andMe and put them on public sites as occurred with the Golden State Killer to be able to get higher matches and get further details.

Ancestry.com produces a transparency report each year with regard to law enforcement. 2015 - 2017 they had not received requests for any DNA. They have only supplied DNA after one request in 2014. 23andme have not provided any. From what I could see myheritage does not publicly produce one. I read recently in a link off websleuths that the 2014 DNA case didn't actually result in a conviction see the link below. It may be used as an investigative tool but I doubt it could be used in evidence. From the transparency reports neither of these sites were used by formal request in the CSK investigation.

2017 report: We received no requests for information related to genetic information of any Ancestry member, and we did not disclose any such information to law enforcement."

What an fascinating site, thanks for sharing Janwa, and it looks as though male ears appear to grow more than female, by those photos? And the sagging, well there's always that!

Thanks Metic for your time and Jan for the link. One thing I noticed now that I have had time to look at the pictures is not only the ears and the nose growing but in most cases the lips are thinner in Jan's link. This is also illustrated in Metic's comparisons. While the photo comparisons in Jan's link are 50 years old these are less than 22 years old.

I was under the understanding that these companies had told DNA customers this wouldn't happen.
Obviously the warrant has some over ride.

I was in discussion with someone about why ancestry hadn't been used for CSK.

WAPOL had the DNA.

They said they would discuss it with WAPOL, then the arrest came which had me thinking this could have been used as the break through.

It obviously wasnt.
With NSW opening 500 cold cases this could be a tsunami and other cases could be connected with WA criminals

This NSW 500 case familial DNA test could open a can of worms.
Combined with ancestry DNS it could be whoop *advertiser censored*.
We have seen how transient serial killers like Dorrough can be.

The reality is the provider has not broken privacy issues, the database is a public information sharing of DNA. You may as well add your DNA profile to Facebook. In the US case detectives created a profile with the DNA and joined the website. I am sure this would be in the sign up and is out of control of the provider.

Interesting though if this is the path Wapol took and why there was mention of Australia in the GSK case. Perhaps sharing tips and ideas on this.

My concern would be it inadmissable in court but I guess as happens, the suspect is then tested on arrest for a full match.

The familial is just for locating. The full match on arrest is the court sampling.

Im sure the DNA database were saying they would not permit it. The warrant must be the kicker public databases.

Maybe thats what WA police did in the end. Maybe the person I had the discussion eith went to macro with idea run DNA on the public database.

It was timely, but maybe they found a way to buy pass the company policy.

As the public database wave flows through criminal databases nationwide over the next two years there will be some newsworthy stories of crims floating out in the wThe reward for success was so high.ild.

The Budget papers noted that the prosecution “has the potential to be one of the longest and most complex criminal cases ever conducted in Western Australian history

It is already the longest running and most expensive murder investigation in Australian history.

She (Ms Cleary) has indicated that if Mr Edwards faces any trial, it is unlikely to be until at least the second half of next year.

The only connection I know of the GSK and Australia was with regard to the Mr Cruel case where the DNA found was compared to DNA found at one of GSK attacks. The timing of the Mr Cruel attacks coincided with a gap in the killings/attacks and MO was similar. They have since been proven to be unrelated.

<modsnip> I've had a go at putting in Mark Dixie to this identikit picture as, like you mentioned the nose is very unique, and that's what keeps bugging me about Mark Dixie's photo. He has a very unique nose, and it matches up perfectly (as do the lips) with the Church Lane identikit! Plus the hair is more Dixie than the accused, has a wiry, curly look to it with Dixie whereas the accused has very straight dark hair, and the pronounced lines under Dixie's nose which the accused doesn't appear to have? IMO. I've put my attempt here, and the original photo of Mark Dixie and the original Church Lane identikit for comparison. The reason I am putting all these up again is if we are considering what COULD be crimes committed by the accused, these identikit pictures are important to look at and consider carefully. IMO.

Just something to consider perhaps in our discussions.

Hi Lampformypath - that picture with Mark Dixie is amazing. Certainly matches up with Dixie’s nose. The sketch artists for the police are fantastic to be able to put a victim’s description on paper and get it so right. Matching up the faces to the sketches is a bit tricky though. JMO

Yes thank you Metic, as I've said this before, but I think the Church Lane attack sounds so much like Mark Dixie. IMO. The savagery and brutality the instant he attacks, no dragging someone off to hide. That particular crime has always sounded "different" to me from the MO used by the CSK. I think there are many more victims of Mr Dixie (aliases used as per below article. I think these aliases are VERY important, hence I have bolded them as they may prove vital to some cold cases being investigated now by WAPOL, and maybe "pinned" on the wrong person? AND the tattoo of the panther, I've never read that before?)

QUOTE (BBM):

"Dixie then took the name Mark James McDonald, using his stepfather’s surname, but throughout his life has used five known aliases including Mark Phillip Dixie, Mark James Down, Steven McDonald and Shane Turner.
He boasted of being the ‘life and soul of the party’ who could drink massive amounts of lager and snort cocaine ‘like a vacuum cleaner.’
The six-foot-three sexual predator, who had a tattoo of a panther on his arm, travelled the world using a series of aliases, looking for victims to satisfy his needs.
"Although Dixie has been ruled out of any murder in the UK, it is thought he may have got away with a series of sex attacks while living in Australia between 1993 and 1999."

Hi Lampformypath -

“Dixie was known as ‘Aussie’ while he worked at the Ramblers Rest pub in Chipstead, Surrey, because of his accent and curly blond surfer hair.”

This is the first I have heard of Dixie having blond surfer hair! Could he be the blonde guy who spoke to CG? Or got into the taxi with SS? JMO

While the picture shows him pushing a male, most of the attacks on females were with knives. He was described as an intruder with the Thai girl. It just seems a different MO.

The video also makes him look heavier than the photo which may also indicate a fatter face.

"At the age of 16, he was charged with indecent assault after allegedly putting a knife to a woman’s throat and fondling her breasts. Although the case was withdrawn in court, it was the first of many brushes with the law. "
"BRITISH police believe the sex monster who raped and stabbed a model to death near London probably killed in WA, where he once worked as a chef."
"Dixie is currently subject to a WA Police investigation over a 19-year-old Thai economics student who was stabbed eight times and raped while unconscious in Leederville in June 1998."

Who knows Annalise, anything is possible. He might have dyed his hair at some stage to help take on a different persona with his different aliases. This was when he was in England in 1999 that he had the blonde hair though, after the CSK murders. He arrived in WA in March 1996 so after SS went missing, didn't leave WA till 1998, but not before he'd raped and tried to murder a poor woman, as per below. I also note this comment:
"Friends who knew him in the Perth now remember how Dixie often made sick comments about his lust for women."
As I said before these types do reveal themselves (no pun intended!) in comments they make to people but people often choose to ignore it and not challenge them (especially someone six feet three inches tall!)

Perhaps through his DNA they may be able to link him to other unsolved murders in Australia. JMO

The below article mentions horrible screams being heard in Swan view the night JR disappeared - report to police made at 01:45 indicating screams were significant:

Post Newspaper June 22-23, 1996 -
"Horrible Screams at 2am"

"Horrible screams for help at 2.13am on Sunday June 9 awakened families in Swan View"
"Senior Sergeant Robin Thoy of Midland Police said a woman called Midland Police station at 1:45 on Sunday June 9 to report screams." (note Claremont to John Forrest approx 45 mins, timing is therefore very feasible).

"Four other residents said they had heard screams at the same time".

Couple queries:
Could the CSK have taken JR to Swan View/John Forrest and then moved her - perhaps making too much noise and attracting attention??
Did he take SS out this way too?

There were houses only 100 metres away so it cant of been on Woolcoot where any torture if were to happen took place.

So that is a considerable drive from Swan View to Woolcoot body on the heading north side.

That would imply deliberate placement. Thats a lot of driving around if it were Jane.
