“An old dog has become a stay-at-home dad for nine ducklings after their mother suddenly disappeared.

Fred the Labrabor took the baby orphans under his paw after their mum vanished on Thursday.

The 10-year-old pooch is the resident pet at Mountfitchet Castle near Stansted, Essex, where a member of staff found the lost siblings waddling around the battlements.

Staff at the popular tourist attraction said they were very worried about the ducklings, but Fred immediately took to them and has been babysitting ever since.

Labs are the loveliest dogs. After they get over the mad puppy stage they are cool, calm and collected.

We had a female, spayed collie who adopted a brand new litter of 5 kittens, after the momma kitty had a stroke during kitten birth. Momma cat was brain damaged and
was a basket case, unable to care for babies. The collie who had never given birth
snuggled the kitties and allowed them to 'pseudo- nurse' and lo and behold MILK
started trickling from her nipples. She ended up nursing and raising the kittens
until they could eat solids and were weaned. Great old gal, Trixie.

Thanks for posting this, Greg. Your posts always being a smile to my face x

Thank you for your kindness I appreciate it. We need cheerful stories like this one here when there is so much tragedy and heartbreak.
