Amber Alert: Deputies say missing baby still hasn't been found

SODUS, NY (WROC-TV) - Searches will continue on Saturday, deputies say, in the case of a missing baby in Wayne County.

[...]

We're told Selena's body had been wrapped in a plastic bag and left in the woods.

Speaking Friday afternoon, deputies said they would continue searching throughout the weekend, until the baby was found.

Selena's boyfriend, Alberto Ebarado Gutierrez-Reyes, is facing charges in the case.

Deputies say trail cameras captured Gutierrez-Reyes walking in and out of the same woods on May 17 carrying a shovel. Deputies say he later admitted to burying Selena Hidalgo-Calderon's body. At this time, he hasn't been charged with her death however.

Deputies did say they found a phone believed to belong to Reyes in their investigation.

As for the Amber Alert, deputies said Friday they didn't expect to find the baby alive. However, they put out the alert as a "Hail Mary," hoping for a miracle.

Friday, more than a hundred volunteers assisted in the search for the 14-month-old.

Makes one wonder if the boyfriend hid Owen away from Selena because the body (I’m so sorry, little one) showed signs of abuse. He needs to talk.

The value of human life just seems to keep dropping! WTH is going on with our society?

I agree. I know sometimes there seems so many because we focus on them here but still.....
there seems to be an awful lot of senseless murders of children and adults and mass shootings lately. Its getting crazy and its very sad. :(

So true. Unwanted children, it seems, have become disposable in this day and age. Are we, as a society, losing respect and honor for human life?

SODUS, N.Y. - The search for a missing 14-month-old boy in Sodus will continue on Monday.

Sunday's search for Owen Hidalgo-Calderon concluded at 4 p.m.

The Wayne County Underwater Recovery Unit was on scene during Sunday's search, but officials have not said if they found anything.

There were 200 searchers from numerous law enforcement crews out searching on Sunday.

An AMBER Alert was issued for him on Friday morning.

Wayne County Sheriff's deputies are asking for the public's help to find Owen Hidalgo-Calderon after his mother,18-year-old Selena Hidalgo-Calderon, was found dead in a wooded area in SodusWednesday morning. Her body was found near her home on Joy Road, hidden underneath dirt and branches.

The K-9 unit was used along Joy Road in the Saturday morning search to find Owen.

State police also called in a helicopter to get a better view while searching the farm in Sodus on Saturday.

Around 1 p.m. Saturday, the helicopter finished searching.

When asked by reporters if they found anything, state police shook their heads.

During interviews with various individuals, including Selena's boyfriend Alberto Reyes, investigators with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said they learned Reyes had tossed a phone on the highway while riding in a vehicle south to Attica. Deputies searched an area of highway where Reyes was believed to have tossed the phone and recovered a phone.

Investigators are now working to obtain a search warrant to analyze the phone and search for potential evidence. Virts said he does not know if the phone belongs to Reyes.

Reyes was arrested on Thursday in Livingston County in connection to Selena's death; he is charged with tampering with physical evidence and is currently incarcerated.

Despite the AMBER Alert being issued, Virts said there is no evidence that this is an abduction.

Owen is approximately two feet tall and weighs about 30 lbs. He has short brown hair and brown eyes. The boy is known to need asthma medication.

Virts said Reyes told deputies he removed her body from their home and buried her in the woods, but did not admit to killing her. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m.
