WEST MILFORD -- The remains of an adult female found Saturday amid heavy brush in the borough have been positively identified as those of a Lafayette woman who disappeared after a car accident more than a week ago, police said.

West Milford police issued a press release this afternoon indicating that the New Jersey Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the remains to be 29-year-old Stephanie Bronaugh.

Bronaugh went missing on July 1 after she was involved in a minor car accident off Oak Ridge Road near the Jefferson Township border.

Police announced on Monday that a deceased female had been found Saturday near the accident site with clothing matching the description of Bronaugh.

West Milford police reiterated today that no foul play is suspected.
Human remains positively ID'd as missing Lafayette woman

RIP Stephanie

What I don’t understand about the reports about this case is that if there was no foul play suspected, was this a drug induced situation or suicide? The reports seem very vague and it almost seems like the police are not giving out information. Even the information about the “minor” accident had no information. Did someone else call the incident? Did someone find the car? It just seems that there is more to this story especially since the medical examiner was able to determine no foul play.

Also, the person on here saying that he went and found evidence, it’s a bit strange and there is nothing on this thread that anyone has said that would disrupt the family nor the police investigation because evidently there isn’t one. And it would seem to me that this must have ties to some law enforcement because the information is so limited. Even the reports not first discussing that this girl has had apparent issues with heroin only last year. Many say that doesn’t have anything to do with this, but without foul play most peope don’t walk from a “minor accident” without a shoe in a heavily wooded area and ditch their cell phone. I don’t know enough about searches but when she was discovered was her body badly decomposed? And is it likely that search teams would have missed where she was?

Very sad. Very very sad. It seems that based on the extreme outpouring of search and the quick hush when found that in the week, more clues led to this possibly being self inflicted or the cause of a serious addiction and mental conditions.
