Stepmother accused of child abuse after two-year-old dies

The Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office arrested a woman Thursday for the death of her two-year-old step-child.

Deputies say they investigated the suspicious death of the toddler on July 16 and immediately asked for help from the Violent Crime Task Force.

During the investigation, they found numerous injuries on the child that were consistent with child abuse.

Brenda Clark, 26, the toddler's step-mother, was identified as a suspect. When interviewed by police, she admitted to abusing the child.

Clark was arrested and booked into the Okmulgee County Jail on a complaint of Child Abuse with Injury with a bond set at $100,000.

The Office of the Medical Examiner discovered injuries consistent with child abuse including fractured ribs and skull. According to the pathologist, the injuries appear to have occurred several days ago possibly as much as two weeks.

Officers contacted Clark, who agreed to submit to an interview, but would not tell officer’s the circumstances surrounding the 2-year-old’s death, court documents said.

“However, she did admit to striking him on two separate occasions with a belt causing him to fall and hit his head,” the court filing stated. “She admitted one of those incidents occurred yesterday and the other about two weeks ago.”

Court documents stated Clark confessed to treating her children differently, saying she did discipline the 2-year-old while she did not do the same with her own, and further admitted that she had gone too far when hitting him with the belt.

She should get the death penalty, IMHO, MOO. The only thing these criminals fear at all is their own mortality. A life with free room and board and not a day's work is appealing to some as I have read, time and time again. God help these babies and little children.
 
How on Earth can a 2 year old get you so riled up that you physically attack him? I don't get it. Don't people have any control over themselves?

She hit him with a belt? RU kidding me? Monster. Give her life in prison. Let them beat her with objects and fracture her ribs and skull.
 
Different innocent child... another case of a failed parental figure... it's not going to end. Over and over, and over. I was against abortion years ago...now? Well if this is the type of life the child is going to have, and be killed later, then maybe it's not such a bad idea.... shame.

Deputies began investigating the suspicious death of a two-year-old child on Monday, July 16 with the assistance of the District 25 Violent Crime Task Force. According to an affidavit, the child's step-mother Brenda Clark found the child and an ambulance rushed him to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The medical examiner found multiple bruises, a fractured rib, and a fractured skull.

"Right as we started looking into it we got a call from the ME's office," said Okmulgee County Sgt. Aaron Swayze. "The M.E. informed us of some injuries that the child had that were consistent with child abuse."

Clark was interviewed by deputies and confessed to the abuse. Court documents say that Clark could not or would not explain what led to the child's death, but she did tell investigators that she had hit the child on two separate occasions with a belt. She told investigators "she had gone too far when she hit him."

Investigators say Clark has shown no remorse in what the Sheriff's office is calling a very serious child abuse case.

"There's times like this case, for instance, it's hard to get it off your mind it's a defenseless two-year-old, the children really bother anybody that's got a heart," said Sgt. Swayze.

A woman was arrested on a complaint of child abuse with injury after the death of a 2-year-old boy in Okmulgee County.

Brenda Clark, 26, was arrested by Okmulgee police after the Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office learned of the “suspicious death” of the child Monday, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

“During the course of the investigation it was learned that the child had numerous injuries which were consistent with child abuse,” the release says.

Clark is the child's stepmother, authorities said.

She confessed to the abuse when interviewed by authorities, the release says.

She was booked into theClark Okmulgee County jail and was being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.

“The cause of the child's death remains under investigation and Clark could potentially face additional charges at a later date should the abuse be determined to be the cause of the child's death,” the release says.

The abuse is alleged to have occurred in Mounds.

IMO it had less to do with the toddler's behavior and more to do with the stepmother's anger and resentment.

She admitted to treating him differently than her own kids and that makes me think it pissed her off badly that her honey had someone else's child in the house. It's not a big leap to consider she probably also took out her anger at the man on his kid whenever they fought - sound familiar?

IOW the little boy became a convenient object to use when she wanted to vent her anger/rage. MOO.
