Phoenix police have arrested a mother for child abuse after her one-year-old boy was found dead in their apartment.

On Tuesday, July 17, at around 4:15 p.m., police were called to the apartment near 19th Avenue and Hatcher Road.

The mother, Donielle Joyce King, 32, was at home, and the baby was unresponsive on the bed.

The child was declared dead at the scene.

According to court paperwork, King “admitted she left her son home when she left for work” at around 6:30 a.m.

Phoenix fire officials say they noticed several bruises on the child's ankles and face. "The mother’s statements were not consistent and evidence was obtained, which led them to develop probable cause that the child had been abused," police said.

King’s bond was set at $50,000.

King is due back in court July 25.

King’s other four children have been placed in the temporary custody of the Department of Child Services.

This isn't the first time King has been accused of child abuse. She was arrested in 2016 on child abuse charges.

Four other children. No mention of a father. Why don't these women use birth control. It's free to them in most cases. It's heartbreaking to see these type of cases over and over again and to find there are always multiple helpless, innocent children involved.

I imagine she didn't take the little one year old to day care because he was already dead or so badly abused, she didn't dare. This just makes my heart sick

PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix woman arrested in July on suspicion of child abuse after her infant son was found dead in her apartment now is facing a first-degree murder charge.

PHOENIX — A Phoenix woman has been charged with murder after her baby son was left alone in an apartment for up to eight hours and found dead back in July.

Court documents released on Wednesday showed that Donielle Joyce King, 32, was charged with one count of first-degree murder.

The charge came one day after Phoenix detectives upgraded the charge against King from one count of child abuse after they found probable cause.
