Maybe you are right. If not it's crazy. Cops have come up with reasons to arrest people that don't have a child escaping from their hotel room with bite marks. This is possibly the time to get liberal with the law. If you are going plant drugs on a person this is the one to do it to. That sounds awful. Even if the trucker was charged with something like resisting arrest, unlawful imprisonment, disorderly conduct, anything that could lead to an arrest even if it was something to hold them until the FBI got there it seems better than letting him go on his merry way. I hope you are right and there is a reason this man was let go.

JMO, if this was part of a larger investigation, LE would have learned a lot more by arresting and questioning the trucker. There are many ways to trace his movements to learn about trafficking activities without having to put him back out on the street. JMO, this looks more like local LE trying to deflect attention and keep anyone from looking too closely at activities in their little truck stop/casino/RV park town.

I was wondering if the victim and his family didn't want to press charges. Some states that isn't up to the victim. By using tracking tools, investigators with University City Police, the Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the National Human Trafficking Center were able to see that he was traveling across the country, but weren’t able to pinpoint exactly where he was.

You are amazing! I love that you posted google maps. I can understand the family not being able to travel to LA for court dates and this town not being equipped to deal with a multistate kidnapping. I can't believe they let this guy go. This kid was reported missing about 3 weeks ago. I didn't hear of this case until last night after he was found. It's scary how many states he traveled through and probably no one was looking for him. What if he hadn't been found would we even know about him?

Missing 16-year-old University City boy reunited with mother after being found in Louisiana

Judice said the truck driver alleged that the boy placed an ad on Tinder describing himself as 19. The truck driver answered the ad, he said, and then met the teen at a truck stop. They traveled to North Carolina, where the truck driver lives, and after several days there traveled to California and Miami.

The teen was taken to a hospital where he was treated for scratches and bites on his back. He was reunited with his mother after she drove to Louisiana to get him.

The article states that Chief Judice said he filed no charges against the truck driver because the victim (allegedly) told the kidnapper that he was 19. I can't believe they used that as an excuse to let the predator go. They act as though the kid was there willingly, when he actually sought help from the staff at the motel to escape.

It reminds me of the Milwaukee, WI police returning one of Jeffrey Dahmer's victims to him when the poor young man tried to escape. LE thought it was a gay "lover's quarrel" and didn't listen to the young man. Dahmer ended up killing and mutilating him.

Thank goodness U City, MO police are taking this seriously.

I find myself comparing this with the spate of recent cases in which teenage girls have been taken out of state by older men in positions of authority, and wondering why this trucker isn't being charged.
