This information has been posted her before, but here it is again:

"This is a new arena for us. That's part of the reason we called the FBI in. It's probably pretty new to them, too," Mitch Mortvedt, spokesman for the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, told CNN. "I don't know of another case here in Iowa where we have used specifically Fitbit info."

When her Fitbit pinged at a hog farm about 10 miles southeast of the house in Brooklyn, IA, where she was last seen, police searched the area but found nothing, Mortvedt said."

Thanks. It does seem like it for sure pinged there based on this article.

Agreed. $400k is quite a motivator.

Makes me wonder how many false positives the investigators have to wade through, when the whole time, to me at least, and in my opinion, it may likely be someone close and living nearby. The reward isn’t helping, because this person is so below the radar, for what ever reason, no amount of reward money matters.

I think it's already been determined the Fitbit doesn't work that way. It tracks steps and sometimes heart rate, not movement of a vehicle.

Correct, in normal mode. But in an activity mode like Fitbit's MobileRun, the Fitbit uses the phone's GPS to record the route. You start MobileRun at the beginning of the run and stop it at the end of your run. I do this on my runs. We know LE has Fitbit location information to the hog farm. The only way a Fitbit would be able to provide this type of data is for it to be in an activity mode, like MobileRun. Which makes sense, as Mollie was last seen jogging

you are a long time member and I respect that but I don't think this is common for a trucker to have a chase car. i think that big truck just swings right threw walmart n driver/s just get what they need or use the truck stop. i know they all don't have sleepers but i think that is more for shorter runs. again i don't intend to be sarcastic, i just don't understand the reasoning. it would log a LOT of miles and fuel.

maybe you are thinking about wide load escorts?

You're thinking of pilot vehicles.

Maybe my memory goes too far back, it's possible, if not likely that tag team truckers with a tag car no longer exist or are far and few between. They would be private ownership, contract haulers, partners in a venture.

What Team Driving Is Really Like

Interesting... this couple works out of Iowa City...
Tag-team trucker couple show trucking teams can earn premium pay

I am positive that considering there have been what, 2000+ tips logged by LE that every possible weird or non-weird thing that anyone could think of has been phoned in. And again, there has to be evidence for there to be a perpetrator. It may just be something that went wrong, and had unintended consequences. Something unintentional would not have a "perpetrator", that refers to someone knowingly, intentionally and physically doing something.

By your definition; IMO it IS a "perp" involved. An intentional act.

1987, I team drove a semi-truck. One person drove 4 hours on (4 hours off to sleep), then the other person drove 4 hours on (4 hours off to sleep) and so on. I have never heard of a chase car. But I may be wrong. Maybe different truck companies do different things. But that's how WE did it.

I have 2 uncles who have been truck drivers since the 70s. I just shot them a message and they haven't heard of one, either.

or maybe this is where it was tossed out and she actually wasn't there

If it's not too far out of the way, I'm curious about this routes marked in pink on these two maps. Any photos you could take of the general area would be great!
I think those are both low populated areas that lead to a large area with trees and water. those are intruiging maps.

Thanks otto. :) That's the source I was referring to.

Thank you Emerald1328. Darn, that takes my breath away. sigh.

"As bittersweet as the thoughts were, he's still confident they're going to bring her back home and she'll pick up from where she left off.

"I still feel that way, we all feel that way, that's why it's difficult
for me to knowing there's a good chance that we're going to bring her
home.," said Rob Tibbetts. "I want to be there when she arrives."
Gulp. And God, I hope his faith and trust in LE isn’t misplaced.

This is why you would use a backhoe, mechanical digger or power argur that you might find on a farm. You want to bury deep enough that it won't be disturbed by plowing, at least a foot or two - the deeper the better. And why are you limited to as cornfield? Linemen use argur trucks to make a 6 foot deep by 16" hole for utility poles all the time. Who questions them when they are off the road digging holes? Plenty big enough for a small woman's body. Also, there is the waste water treatment plant being built near Brooklyn, and the Windmill farms under construction to the south of the town. What kind of massive excavation and cement pours must go on for that kind of construction, for retention tanks and footings. You must know that there is a cement plant in Brooklyn for a reason. And what about all of the hog farms around Brooklyn. Anaerobic hog waste digestion ponds are are great place to dispose of a body, and destroy almost all forensic evidence. Iowa, what a great place for a body farm. And you thought they just farmed hogs and corn there!
Very useful info post. Thank you.

Did the LE officer say it on camera or did a reporter say that’s what he’d heard from an official on scene. If it is confirmed that LE said it, that might impact some portions of how I think about this case.

I can't cite it (but sripey down post @ #1059 says he can), but I did see an MSM video of an Iowa LEO expressing his genuine frustration, after the first search of the "hog farm", at not finding MT at this location because it was the 'last place her Fit bit had pinged' (e.g. geolocated via her phone - I know that a Fitbit can't ping, but that is what he said, or words to that effect). My impression of the very brief clip, a sound bite really, was that LE really expected to find MT there, and would be able to wrap this up real quick, and were not happy that this was not the case. If you go to the start of this thread, under 'What We Know', #10 states: "A digital signal led police to the Guernsey farm area". So yeah, I'll stand by the fact that I heard a LEO say this on camera. This was just before LE started to tighten up on LE info leaks and misstatements, early in the investigation. MSM reports that there was a search of a hog farm in the Guernsey area the morning of Thursday 26 July 2018.
