Cody Wilson, 30, the owner of a Texas company that sells plans to make untraceable 3-D printed guns was back in the U.S. Sunday after being arrested in Taiwan, where police say he flew after learning he was being investigated for allegedly having sex with an underage girl.

Wilson was arrested at a Taiwan hotel Friday after being accused of sexual assault in Texas. He was booked into the Harris County Jail early Sunday, the television station reported. Wilson has an active warrant for his arrest in Travis County, for felony sexual assault.

Austin Police Cmdr. Troy Officer said Wilson met the girl at a coffee shop on August 15 and later brought her to a hotel and paid her $500 for sex.

The age of consent in Texas is 17.

Wilson is the founder of Defense Distributed, a company that created blueprints of a 3D-printed handgun made of plastic, the same material used in Lego blocks. The company is embroiled in a legal dispute that began in the Obama administration over the distribution of the blueprints.

Shortly after Wilson posted the blueprints online in 2013, the Obama administration ordered him to take them down. Wilson responded with a lawsuit in 2015, claiming First Amendment rights. The Trump administration settled the case in June, and the 3D weapon blueprints were scheduled to be posted online August 1. However, Washington state and other states successfully sued to block the release of the blueprints that day.

The U.S. Marshals Service said 30-year-old Cody Wilson was booked into Harris County Jail in Houston early Sunday and was being held on $150,000 bond. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney yet.

The Taiwan newspaper The Liberty Times reported that police pinpointed Wilson's exact whereabouts in Taiwan by proposing a business deal with his company on his website and then monitoring when and where he signed the contract online. The newspaper said he cooperated calmly with authorities upon arrest.

According to an affidavit by an Austin police detective filed in Travis county district court on Wednesday, Wilson messaged an underaged girl through the website SugarDaddyMeet.com, had sex with her in an Austin, Texas, hotel on 15 August 2018, and gave her $500.

The girl told a counselor at the Center for Child Protection in August about the alleged assault, and the counselor reported it to police. But one of the victim's friends apparently tipped off Wilson, who boarded a flight to Taiwan and skipped out on the return ticket.

So we know he’s a flight risk with the means to get as far away as possible.....and now he’s out, even before he was transferred back into the county where the crime took place. This is awful. I just hope they had a strong enough case when they filed charges. I know we want to stop this guy, but we better have him dead to rights because he has already demonstrated the ability to slip through loopholes. Ugh. As if we don’t already have enough to worry about in here.

Is there any proof that he knew she was 16? From the things I've seen, the girl should have admitted to being 18+ while on the website... so he would have been safe to assume that she was 18 or older...
