NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) - New Bern police are investigating after what appeared to be a human skull was discovered Friday morning.
Police responded to the 2100 block of Oaks Road at 10:35 a.m. after the discovery of human remains was reported.
It was found by New Bern city employees doing drainage work in a flood-prone area.
The area where the remains were found had been under ten feet of water during Hurricane Florence.

New Bern police say the remains were found around 10:30 a.m. near Oaks Road and Ellington Street.
Lt. David Daniels tells WITN that city employees found the skull a couple of hundred yards into the woods.
Daniels says they believe the workers were cleaning ditches when they found the remains. He said so far no other bones have been located.
