Dr. Lily Pereg, 54, an associate professor of microbiology at the University of New England in Australia, and her sister, Pyrhia Sarusi, 63, were last seen on January 12 in the Argentine city of Mendoza. They were visiting Sarusi’s son, Gil Pereg, 36, in the Mendoza province, in the northwest of the country.

Police in the Argentinian city of Mendoza confirmed on Saturday night that the bodies of Pyrhia Sarusi, 63, and her sister Lily Pereg, 54, the two Israeli women who disappeared two weeks ago in the country, were located in a property belonging to Gil Pereg, Sarusi’s son.

According to reports in the local media, the bodies were found in a corner of the yard, about 1.5 meters deep. They were found after the police dug in the area using tractors.

On Friday it was reported that the authorities in Argentina had arrested Gil Pereg on suspicion of the double murder of his mother and aunt.

Bodies of Israeli women missing in Argentina found

So many women traveling abroad lately have been preyed upon and ended up in shallow graves. They all have had a lot to offer the world as well. Such a shame. RIP ladies.

Police in Argentina have charged an Israeli man in the murder of his mother and her sister earlier this month, according to Argentine media.

Gil Pereg, 36, was arrested Friday after bloodstains were found on a shirt and bag of cement in his apartment in Mendoza, in the northwest of the country. Officers also reportedly found four guns, as well as euros, dollars, and pesos totaling $80,000, and dozens of cats and dogs.

"Last Friday, scientific staff found blood in a cement bag at the end of the property in a construction site," the prosecutor, Claudia Rios, said to the press.

"It was established the blood corresponds with a sample from a toothbrush of the missing women," she continued.

On Saturday, the affair finally ended, with the police finding the bodies of the two women on Gil Pereg's property.
According to the Mendoza Post daily, there is increasing evidence that Gil Pereg is not of sound mind.

Since being taken into custody, the man has threatened to commit suicide if he "wasn't allowed to go and take care of his cats."

He was also reported to have undergone a radical physical transformation prior to his relatives' visit, ditching overgrown unkempt facial hair and dreadlocked hair, according to tabloid El Sol.

The police said Gil Pereg was known to them as an informant in small criminal cases, according to the Mendoza Post. He was known locally as Floda Reltih - an anagram for Adolf Hitler.

At least one of the women was shot, autopsy results showed.

Local media are reporting the victim had suffered three gunshot wounds while the other showed signs of having been dragged.

Gilad Pereg, who reportedly was the Argentine chairman of five companies set up by his mother, has now be transferred to a local prison.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Monday confirmed it was providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian woman who died in Argentina.

Man accused of killing his mother and aunt meows like a cat, urinates in bizarre court appearance | Daily Mail Online

Pereg had applied for bail or home detention as he awaits trial, which is expected to begin later this year.

He left a puddle of urine on the floor of the court where he had been sitting during questioning, the Mendoza Post reported.

During the hearing he also claimed he had forgotten his age.

Pereg later meowed like a cat when his bail application was denied on Thursday.

Police prosecutor Claudia Rios had opposed bail based on the seriousness of the alleged crime and the risk Pereg could flee the country.

An initial psychiatric assessment suggested mental illness was not a factor and should not prevent Pereg going to trial, the court heard.
