I'm not LE so I can't answer that question. I can only guess that after this officer arrived on scene of a horrific double murder <with the scene of Denise especially YKWIM>, he might have had a traumatic response as well. Yes, they are trained LE but they are also human too.

The Taurus yielded to him and headed straight into the direction of oncoming LE, not away from them as would be expected of a perp fleeing the scene. It just did not click in his mind. Not good, but an honest mistake.

WS is LE and victim friendly, and I don't believe anyone in this case did anything with malice or intentional neglect. JMO
I am in complete agreement - I do not believe it is protocol when enroute to a 911 call - any LE would stop that pursuit to pull over a vehicle with a license plate violation. IMO

I hope there are no legal issues with the courthouse having Jamie's Christmas tree still up. You never know what the defense will do as far as an appeal.

Thanks Pommy for getting all these links at lightning speed, much appreciated! :)

The tree has little to do with JP or his prosecution. At the time it was erected, the tree symbolized hope. Hope that Jayme would return home. It also served as a reminder to the public that LE needed tips, and then was left standing in celebration of her return. The entire town is still celebrating and I see no reason why the Justice Center wouldn't also be expected to share in that. I understand your concern but I really don't think the tree is going to pose any issues.

ETA: From yesterday, 2/5 - Community celebrates Jayme Closs' safe return home

A look at the rules posted throughout the Barron County courthouse. Much more visible security this time. We’re told Jake Patterson will appear in person & Barron County asked State Patrol for security assistance today. #wcco #JaymeCloss

Attys for both sides just arrived in courtroom. Appeared to be heading back into chambers. Perhaps to confer with tJudge. We're about 30 min out for Jake Patterson Preliminary hearing. Still have not seen defendant. His lawyers told media on way in to expect a "short" hearing.

Jake Patterson was transported from the Polk County jail about 40 min away to Barron County—hours ago. Again, he’s been charged with murder, kidnapping & armed robbery. Held on a $5 mill bail since his last January 14th appearance #wcco #JaymeCloss

Sheriff tells me gifts continue to pour into Barron for #JaymeCloss from all over. His office screens those packages & then delivers them to Jayme. Mentioned a home-made gift arriving from Italy this week. Her story is everywhere including the recent cover of People magazine.

So glad it is the Sheriff screening this!

Patterson’s attorneys walked into the courtroom where 3 rows are now filled with media. The family of #JaymeCloss will be escorted in just before the hearing and one row is reserved for Patterson family. His Atty’s told us to “expect a short hearing.” #wcco #JaymeCloss

#JaymeCloss family & loved ones have taken their seats in court. Big contingent as we expected. Taking up three full rows of the gallery. Six people to a row. I recognize faces from both sides of James & Denise Closs extended family.

FYI- reporters will not be allowed to use their phones once court begins. 3 rows of family and friends of #JaymeCloss just escorted into courtroom #wcco

Night of the crimes JP had the shotgun with him and was pumped after murdering James and Denise Closs. When he was pulled over he did not have a firearm to shoot at the two officers.

IMO I feel relieved that everything worked out the way that it did. JC is safely home. That's all that has ever mattered. And, though I feel LE may have made some mistakes, I am certain they have learned from those errors. At least I hope so! :)

I truly don't believe it was a LE conspiracy. JMO

Ita!

I never second guess what the officers did or the decisions they made at the time.

Only they know why certain decisions are/were made since they are the only ones privy to all of the facts in evidence. Imo. FBI profilers told them not to do so because it may profoundly affect Jayme's chances of remaining alive.

Just like the PC knew the Washington DC snipers didnt drive a white van all along. It was designed to fool the killers into believing the police really has no clue what they really drove, but of course they did.

Decisions like this are common, and each one has a valid reason for doing what they do.

I can only make a logical guess, and they did not want the kidnapper to get spooked in any way whatsover.

If the kidnapper knew they had put a description out of his vehicle the police knew he could kill Jayme, and then flee.

They always firmly believed Jayme was alive, and they didn't want to do anything on their part that may jeopardize that firmly held belief.

Were they looking behind the scene? More than likely but trying to find one is like looking for a needle in a haystack when they didnt even know which haystack to even look in.

Didn't he even change license plates, and the tag number wasn't captured when the officer saw it?

Imo, it's so easy to Monday morning quarterback from afar when we aren't any part of any investigation, and aren't aware of any of the details or why certain decisions were made, and why, by all of those who were actually deeply involved..

I believe withholding this information from the kidnapper gave Jayme a much better chance of survival, That was Fitzgerald's main goal from minute one.

It worked, because he had relaxed thinking he had completely gotten away with double murder, and kidnapping.

Putting out the description of the car the kidnapper drove would make them even more unstable/panicky, and thinking he had to kill Jayme so no living witnesses would be left behind.

It could have cost Jayme her life. It was a gamble Fitzgerald, and the profilers weren't willing to take.

The best way to keep this monster calm was for Fitzgerald to announce over, and over again they had no evidence or clue who the suspect could be.

Imo
