“We’re hoping that a face humanizes the remains enough so that people may take another look and think back to those days.”

“Maybe somebody might recognize something about this individual. May recall a friend that they hadn’t seen, hung out in the 70s,” Gruspier said.

“We can’t say for sure that he’s Canadian. He could be American. The Vietnam War was going on at the time. So we don’t know. The border was quite fluid, unlike today.

It is interesting in that it does not say if the remains were skeletonized, etc, but I am assuming so, due to the fact that more remains were found in 1995.

ETA: I believe he was found in Algonquin Provincial Park.

The man’s cause of death is unknown, however police believe information recovered from the scene and a stamp found in the wallet led analysts to determine that his death occurred between July 1, 1971 and spring of 1978.

Algonquin Park John Doe
I know this area very well as my family camped at this location the Summer of 1975.
John Doe was found off trail overlooking Pog Lake.
The location of the makeshift campsite was very close to the Highway that runs thru Algonquin Park and quite a distance above the lake.
I feel that John Doe was only passing thru the area and having a Canadian stamp in his wallet could suggest he was at least periodically keeping in touch with someone.
I walked that trail with my family and I remember it distinctly as my parents were barely speaking to eachother that day and my younger sister and I hung back to avoid the tension. I have wondered for many years if John Doe was there and we walked by his remains.
I wonder if any viable DNA was found from hair or bone?

I believe that I just answered my own question from above - as all info states it was an 8cent Canadian stamp found in his wallet, this was the price of the common letter stamp from 1971 to 1975 - I just Googled it.

The postage rates went up in 1976 from 8 to 10 cents, so chances are yes his remains were there., big sad sigh from me.
This poor young man lay undiscovered for a minimum 5yrs and wouldn't have been 100 ft from the path.

I feel that this John Doe was not a kid from the Country, and I say this because the area is a National Park so full of bears and cougars that a City kid might not realize the danger of camping alone and sleeping on the ground.

This case has become even more personal now, and I feel guilty for being one of the many that walked past without knowing he was there.

I think we have to built this case up again....all the links are not working anymore. Did somebody ever read about the cause of death? Being an Canadian case I guess not much information shared.
