Once again, an odd one. Not much information to go on, but my first thought was that this skull might be old/historic, perhaps Native?

Historic was my first thought too, but surely having had this skull since 2013 they would have done analysis that would tell them how old the skull is?

Finding a real skull in a cauldron sounds... interesting. Like it was being used as a prop, maybe. In which case, if not historical, perhaps stolen from a grave or elsewhere? That seems a little more likely than a murder victim, though you never know.

I wonder how they determined that the skull was female. DNA is available, so maybe that's how.

Re: gender of a skull. I remember watching slides in Anthropology, showing gender differences in human skeletons. We're used to thinking about pelvic structure, but in adults there are differences due to muscle development mostly -- males generally do have stronger muscles & this does influence bone growth patterns.

Now of course IDK what investigators are using here!

JMHO YMMV

For what it's worth, here is a shot of the address. The Zillow page on it stated it was sold "as-is". Neighborhood looks like it has seen better days.

DBM the double posting gremlins are plaguing me this weekend.

This article has some more details about the circumstances.
"Lakewood police do not consider the house a crime scene, because they don't have any evidence that a crime was committed there. Davis says investigators believe all the items were brought-in from somewhere else. Even if the bones do prove to be human, that doesn't necessarily mean a crime was committed. Police say human bones are sold on the internet, and it's perfectly legal."
If they were bought on the internet they could have come from anywhere. Going to be very hard to ID.
