Found Deceased CA - John Sturkie, 55, planned to go to the beach, Oceanside, San Diego County, 4 Jan 2019

I'm confused! Can someone clarify the San Jacinto Mountain information? The mountains are my "backyard" so this caught my attention. Was he seen or known to be there? This is news to me. Where exactly in the mountains? Two weeks ago we had a horrendous storm come through that wiped out huge parts of two main roads that go up into the mountains. CHP still has some parts closed and other parts are only open by escort or to residents, who were essentially cut off from "civilization" for a few days while repairs were made. Campgrounds were evacuated due to flooding and incredibly dangerous conditions. It was the biggest storm I've experienced since living here for 13.5 years and was made worse because of the devastating wildfires last summer. There was so much police activity up in the mountains that if his truck was abandoned up there it probably would have been located or at least made note of. It is my understanding the northern end of the SJ Mountains was harder hit than the southern end. The southern end would be closer to San Diego County.

Unfortunately information has been so scarce on this case. If you Google "John Mark Sturkie", the first link should take you to a campaign started by a family member.

The San Jacinto info is in the most recent update (from 2 days ago). Apparently authorities haven't been able to conduct ground searches due to the weather, but helicopter searches have been done.

I found the , but it only mentions he was last seen at home and mentions El Cajon. I read through about 10 other articles and they all repeated the same information. I still haven't come across the San Jacinto Mountains information. SHRUG

Not much interest in finding this guy. Plenty of conflicting and unreliable information. That Go Fund Me page has not had any donations for 8 days now. And it starts by saying that he was "visiting a friend in El Cajon." Yeah, sure, that's helpful.

So he went to the beach....Which Beach? No idea. He was going for a group bonfire. What Group? No idea. But wait....he was really going to El Cajon to visit a friend? What Friend? No idea.

Maybe this story will have an ending someday....or maybe not.

I tried using that information, but still didn't find anything. In fact, I didn't find any articles or information that was that recent. I did a Google search, read through everything, and couldn't find mention of SJ Mountains. I appreciate the help.

LOL this is tricky because we're not allowed to link to it but if you go back to where you read about El Cajon and click on "Updates (3)" (right above the paragraph mentioning El Cajon) you will see it.

I don't know if it's possible to reach out to the person and ask that she join WS and become a verified insider.

Thank you! I found the update button. My next questions are, how do they know this is his last known location, what day was that, and where in the SJ Mountains? They are big! I am curious to know if the SJ information comes from before January 4.

Nobody here is able to answer any of those questions. Perhaps they should be asked of the person who is running the page referencing these items. Lots of vague and conflicting details about the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. You would think that if there was really an interest in finding him, that there would be more concrete information regarding his last known whereabouts. So far as I know, the official story has his wife as the last person to see him alive. And you know what they usually say about that person. JMHO.

I am not as suspicious of the wife's story in this case. If they have been married for 20 yrs, their kids are likely in their late teens or so. I think the kids probably helped her track the phone with 'apple's FindMy i-phone' APP.

I think they probably witnessed Dad leaving in a hurry after dinner. I think the bonfire story sounds hinky because it was a hinky story he told his wife, so he could go visit his friend in Cajon or the Mountains in San Jacinto, or where ever...

I am wondering if his 'friend' had a jealous husband who did not appreciate his visit?

I hope it's OK to post this link. I believe it's the PI firm hired by JS's side of the family.
Premier Group International on Instagram: “John Mark Sturkie, missing since January 4, 2019, was reportedly seen in Beaumont, California, January 5th. . •If you have any information…”

According to the post (from Feb 28), JS was reportedly seen in Beaumont on January 5th. Not sure why there is so little information out there, and yet what is out there is conflicting.
Last seen in Beaumont the day after his wife last saw him on Jan 4? I would like to know more about this supposed sighting, in order to determine how credible it is. Who is saying there was a sighting in Beaumont? Meaning is there an eye witness? Camera?

Right—was it a camera showing him, and a clear shot of his license plate? Or was it someone who didn’t know him phoning in a tip that they saw someone JUST LIKE HIM! (I’m skeptical of the latter, but we have no idea what it was.)

I cannot believe the truck has not been located. I know it takes long to find "people", but usually the vehicle would be found by now. I wonder not only about if he had another relationship or his wife may have. I also get a strong feeling with him having such a highly valuable trade (much work available) why did he take the year off. Did he suffer an injury? And not to sound dumb but what is a Scapula (do they mean the shoulder blade scapula? ) IMHO

I think it’s interesting that his wife said “I’M Catholic” and then described the scapular / blessing. Is he not Catholic as well, and is that why she had to prompt him to return the blessing? Was this a first-time ornone- Time thing? If so, why?

And does this long-unemployed man, whose family could lose their house, have life insurance?

Under the circumstances, with no body, car missing, the person having job skills where you might be able to move somewhere else and get paid in cash—I think that any insurance company might hold out a very long time before paying out on a policy. (I’m not promoting the idea that he’s voluntarily disappeared—just that insurance companies are notoriously cautious.)

Just FYI for those of you unfamiliar with the area, you can easily drive to the San Jacinto Mountains from Beaumont. It sounds like there might be two reports of him in this general area. I'm very curious as to the nature of these reports.

I hadn’t heard that the family was in danger of losing their house. But regarding life insurance... why wouldn’t he have life insurance? Especially if he intended on working again. FWIW, he could have had his life insurance policy for years, and if he cancelled his policy, it would likely be more expensive to get a new policy at his age. I don’t see any reason to not keep a life insurance policy if you’re out of work for a year.
