Identity switch cop’s ex vanishes with tot

POLICE fear a cop’s missing ex has used her expert IT skills to create a new identity — after vanishing with their three-year-old girl.

Accountant Salena Dingwall, 39 — who once worked for an anti-corruption unit — is believed to have tapped into her hi-tech knowledge to make sure she and little Holly Bringan can never be traced.

Officers have been searching for the tot since she was reported missing last October — but have so far drawn a complete blank.

Last night Holly’s police sergeant dad Douglas Bringan, 44, appealed to Salena to end his agony — and let him know his daughter is safe. He said: “I miss my daughter greatly and think about her every minute of every day. I hope I can be reunited with her soon.”

Strathclyde officer Douglas, from Glasgow, added: “My message to Salena is to please make contact.”

The doting dad had enjoyed regular visits from his little girl, despite a bitter split from his wife in 2007 when Holly was just four months. But he was forced to report Holly as missing on October 22 after repeated attempts to contact Salena failed.

Police have since been unable to trace the pair despite exhaustive enquiries.
It’s thought the mum had specialist knowledge of how to create new IDs and open bank accounts without leaving a trace.

And last night Superintendent Jim Coubrough, who is leading the investigation, appealed to her to come forward. He said: “Salena has a knowledge of finances and technology, and has managed to create another life for herself — which in this day and age is quite unusual.”

He added: “Salena has not committed any crime. We understand that she is a good mum. “But we need physical proof Holly is safe and well.”

Salena, originally from Troon, Ayrshire, also uses the name Sarah and surnames Bringan, Barnes and O’Brien. She was planning a new life in Bristol — but could now be anywhere in the UK.

Police have been in regular contact with her mother Margaret Barnes. But the 76-year-old, from Irvine, Ayrshire, said: “Salena didn’t want me to know where she went so I’m not in contact with her. “But I know she and Holly are safe — I have a mother’s instinct.”

We cannot print Salena’s picture due to legal reasons. But she is 5ft 1in, slim, with dark shoulder length hair, which was dyed blonde. She has blue eyes but sometimes wears brown lenses.

Where is little Holly Bringan?

She was a mere two years old when little Holly Bringan disappeared from her Scotland home on October 22, 2009. She is believed to be with her mother in contravention of a court order.

Holly's parents separated in October 2007. She lived with her mother Salena Bringan in Troon, Ayrshire, Scotland and saw dad Douglas often.

Holly's dad is a police sergeant and her mom is an accountant that has worked with an anti-corruption unit. It is believed that Ms. Bringan, also known as Sarah and who has used the surnames O'Brien, Dingwall and Barnes, used her IT skills to make sure she and Holly are off the radar.

At the time of her disappearance Holly was 2'6" with brown hair and blue eyes.

I wonder what the legal reasons were for not printing Salena/Sarah's picture?

On other threads, Scot posters have explained that until a person is convicted, their privacy is protected. I'm not sure Mom has even been charged?

I respect that, but -- seems to be a backfire in this situation, JMHO.

The daughter will have questions eventually.

Some of my ancestral Scots lived in this area.

Holly, Dad loves you!

So the tot would now be 13, the mum 49. Without a picture of the mum or an age progression of the daughter, I think it will be a difficult find.

Wouldn't Holly be 11 now if she was 2 y/o in Oct 2009? 12 at the most?

I agree an age progression would be an important step to do.

Does Holly have any birthmarks or any chronic or genetic illnesses?

Did Holly show a strong interest or early talent in a particular field that she might still pursue today?

And the mom, did she have hobbies or passions or causes she deeply cared about? It's one thing to change your name and cut all contact with family and friends but quite another not to do anymore what you love doing most.

Ten year hunt continues for Scotland’s youngest ever missing person who vanished at just aged two

Detectives say they will never stop searching for Scotland’s youngest missing person a decade on from her disappearance.

Holly Bringan, from Ayrshire, has not been seen since she vanished with her mum aged two.

Today, she remains the youngest Scot to be registered on Police Scotland’s database of almost 800 long-term missing people.

And a top detective yesterday said they will continue searching, however long it takes.
Holly and her mother Salena Dingwall were reported missing from Irvine on October 22, 2009.

At the time, it was suspected Salena may have used her skills working in an anti-corruption unit to set up a new life for her and her daughter without being detected.
---
Holly’s gran said her “mother’s instinct” told her the pair were safe but Margaret Barnes tragically passed away last year without learning what had happened to them.

Charity Missing People has regularly appealed to Holly, who will now be 12, to make contact.
---
It’s understood her dad Douglas Bringan, who split from Holly’s mum a few months after she was born but remained in contact, remains optimistic that one day his daughter will come looking for him.

I live in Irvine and have only just heard about this case. Very possible they started a new life somewhere.
