#McStay - Defense called Susan Blake to the stand today. She is the mother of Joseph McStay. She testified on day 2 of the state's case. Court was only in session for 2 hours today and Blake was the only witness.....2 hours.
I wonder if they asked her about the table, plus other stuff of course, because that wouldn't have taken 2 hours.

In the jailhouse tape Cathy mentions that she's been told the family still has the table.

No that was a different part of the tape. This is about the 8.28 call.

This is what he says -

I came back down to the house, laid my phone on the counter, phone rang and you saw it, obviously, I didn’t, I never remembered that phone call, ever, I still don’t to this day.

But immediately following that doesn't he talk about why would he even be there, there's nothing out there?

That's not the 8.28 call though, which is what he said he never remembered.

He does go on to talk about his phone being on towers going north on the 15 freeway at the 9.32 call after that part I posted, but that's not where he says he never remembered that call.

I'd have to listen to it again, maybe my memory sprang a leak.

This is the part you are thinking of -

Chase: I’m trying. Um the DA’s premise is that I left that evening at 5.48, went into Bonsall and came back, at 9.32 I made a call from they say the 15 freeway going north, but my phone hit two towers near the 60 freeway but definitively show, you know, if, if the towers are correct, I’m going east on Van Buren, not even on the 60.

Cathy: That night?

Chase: Yeah. What would I be doing on Van Buren Boulevard, at 9.32 at night? There’s nothing over there. There’s the 60, Van Buren runs parallel [inaudible].

Cathy: Is that in Riverside?

Chase: It goes to Riverside. At 9.30 at night I wouldn’t be going out there.

No, why would he be in the location where the 9:32 call pinged from (he says something about Ventura but I can't remember what he says about that specifically).

Well, he might not have been in Ventura. I thought that there were a couple of towers he pinged at that time. But I think I get what you are saying. If he'd been home, and in the club house, why at 9:32 would he ping a tower that distance from his home?

He may have been headed to gamble at that time. Those towers were in a place where investigators speculated Chase was returning from murdering the McStays, but he could also have been headed to the casino near Temecula.

BBM I believe the DT is trying to establish that with the expert testimony and physical records. No one knew on Feb. 4, 2010, the significance of that call. jmho

As to the bolded, SOMEONE did know the significance of that call.

Specifically the somebody who backdated forged checks TO THAT SAME DATE. In my opinion anyway.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm remembering, thanks.

There is a big Indian Casino just past Ventura, right outside Santa Barbara. Chumash Casino.
