Well, he might not have been in Ventura. I thought that there were a couple of towers he pinged at that time. But I think I get what you are saying. If he'd been home, and in the club house, why at 9:32 would he ping a tower that distance from his home?

He may have been headed to gamble at that time. Those towers were in a place where investigators speculated Chase was returning from murdering the McStays, but he could also have been headed to the casino near Temecula.

If he was on his way to Pechanga, why say he was in the clubhouse? Why would he go to Pechanga when San Manual is much closer to his house?

Actually, the first person to mention it was MM. He said he checked with Chase after noticing the call on Joey's phone records and that was when Chase mentioned that he just heard noise in the background (kids or restaurant sounds). Early on we, on the boards, wondered if it had been a "butt dial" (accidental call when sitting down).

So that would indicate that the first answer Chase gave was inconsistent with a few answers that he followed with.

I don't understand why more testimony isn't being brought forward. Scheduling conflicts? Or something else. It's odd.

#McStay - Court only in session 2 1/2 days next week. There are several other days coming up that court will not be in session due to attorney schedules, jury schedules, etc... It's been this way the entire trial and why this case is very difficult to cover.

*Pretty sure Judges dental appointments should be in there somewhere lol

No wonder this trial is moving at a snails pace, crikey!!

Quite honestly, at that point in time, everyone was confused. In the video I posted upthread of MM and EquuSearch in the Fallbrook home, MM mentions to everyone that "maybe there was a call from someone Joey trusted, like Chase, to come out an meet him somewhere". Clearly everyone was confused and worried. I don't think anyone changed or tailored their evidence. These were people whose only focus was finding the family. There was a lot of conjecture and changing information as new pieces of the puzzle were found. jmho

Yes, nearly everyone was confused. Except for the one or 2 people who already knew what happened.

BBM Those of you who are still confused about the phone calls really need to watch the expert testimony. @missy1974 had also posted a detailed report. Up to this point in the trial there has been no evidence that places Chase in Fallbrook at the time of Joey's last call (which expert testimony states originated in Fallbrook). It's time to focus on the evidence that hasn't been refuted by expert testimony. Because that is what the jury will hear. We may or may not like it, but that is where we're at.

Maybe he played some shenanigans with his phone. If his phone was left somewhere else or with someone else, he may have been to Fallbrook and we wouldn't know.

I gather the jury is not sequestered, LOL

maybe a lot of the confusion stems from CM gaslighting the family members in the immediate aftermath? I would certainly be confused if my family was missing under similar circumstances IMO
Sorry edited duplicate quote!

I know CM is an accomplished conman and thief, but I don't really don't think he is very tech savvy. I would find it easier to believe that someone else orchestrated a phone swap, either to cover for themselves or set Chase up. Don't I recall reading on here that CM bought a new phone early in February??

Just speculating here, but looking over the phone logs we have of his, it appears that this was routine. He would spend time with family, and then he would be off the grid later at night. I have no idea what he did later in the night. But by 9 PM his kids would be asleep, and if he was going to gamble, he'd have time to do this, and get back home to bed in time to work the next day.

Me too.

I am also very curious about the 'ANGER' alternative medicine she was looking for. It makes me think that Joey called her and was very angry at Chase, and she was trying to get something to help Joey calm down for his health.

I'm posting 2 that specifically have "anger" in the product name. All homeopathic.

I have a theory that Chase never even told Cathy the McStays were missing until after that first weekend. Based on him being the one who murdered them, per the evidence, I don't think he would draw attention to the fact of their disappearance while he's still got the bodies, is then out burying them and moving their Trooper to the border.

So when he's calling her during his interview with detectives on Feb 17th, asking what they were doing on Monday 8th, I don't think Cathy even realizes then that it was the Monday after the disappearance or what date the McStays actually disappeared.

There's something about the lateness of them discussing that he needs to speak to police even though he's got warrants, because this could be a life or death situation, and so when she's going back over her memories of Chase not answering Joey's call she could be mixing in information from Mikey (who has Joey's bill and the 8.28 call), as well as the Friday before the 4th where Chase didn't pick up Joey's call.

So I don't think she had a reference point for when they disappeared from the beginning. If they had have questioned her with dates and times closer to the time it happened I think she would have remembered Chase being absent on the 6th when he was in the desert, and maybe she would have clocked other things around that time, like his 20 odd calls to her that lunch time and the 5 calls she made to his voicemail that evening.

Tortoise, I find your "theories" fascinating! There can be all the data in the world, but I find that coming up with the theory behind it all quite a talent. We will likely never know exactly what happened in this case, but I'm confident that by the end of it, you'll have a pretty good idea.
