Police have formally identified a body found on the northern Gold Coast on Thursday as missing 12-year-old schoolgirl Tiahleigh Palmer.

Tiahleigh, from Logan City, had not been seen since leaving her Marsden school last Friday.

Her remains were found on the banks of the Pimpama River, about 40 metres north of the bridge near Kerkin Road North, by fishermen just after 5:00pm on Thursday.

Hopefully someone gets 5 minutes with Rick Thorburn , it’s a disgrace the rest of his scummy family are out playing happy families again , and amazing how many friends they have managed to keep .
Trent will be back in the spotlight again , he never showed remorse for what he did , I would put money on it he will reoffend again , apple didn’t fall far from the tree with him .
Hopefully now Cindy is suing the department they will be forced into fixing the system as to them it’s all about money not the children

I see in that article that, after this move, he will then be moved on again to Wolston Correctional Centre. Why we protect violent scum like this is absolutely beyond me.

Rick Thorburn is facing a string of new child-related sex offences, it has been revealed in court today.

Lawyers for the 58-year-old appeared in Beenleigh District Court today after Thorburn was last year committed to stand trial for charges that included rape, attempted rape, and nine counts of indecent treatment of a child under 12.

The alleged offences occurred between 2015 and April 2016 at a family daycare centre that his wife Julene ran from their home in Chambers Flat.

Today in court, Judge Craig Chowdhury adjourned the matter for further mention until April 23 so a string of new charges could be dealt with.

The court was told that Thorburn stands accused of further offences that related to one of the affected child victims.

Thorburn’s lawyer Jaci Soles, from Quinn & Scattini Lawyers, advised these charges would be dealt with by way of a registry committal.

Thorburn is also facing other charges — including one count of indecent treatment of a child under 16.

These charges will be dealt with at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on April 10.

Thorburn is accused of raping a girl aged under 12 while working at a daycare centre south of Brisbane.

Earlier this month Thorburn was also committed to the Beenleigh District Court on other charges which included attempting to rape another girl aged under 12, as well as nine indecent treatment charges allegedly relating to incidents between July 2015 to April 2016.


Today prosecutors had the case adjourned to May 7 to give them time to organise all offences into one indictment.

In a hearing in August last year Thorburn's lawyers argued he would not be able to get a fair trial with a jury for the daycare rape allegations, and so he should face a judge-only trial.

Prosecutors submitted juries should be able to focus on the facts of the trial to form a verdict.

They conceded that moving the trial to the Brisbane District Court could "dilute" the pool of potentially compromised jurors.

On Tuesday Beenleigh court registry staff confirmed Thorburn has been granted a judge-only trial.

Thorburn was convicted of incest, perjury and attempting to pervert the course of justice after he had sex with 12-year-old schoolgirl Tiahleigh Palmer.

Trent was released from prison in late January after being convicted in October.
