As I await the start of day 2 of the #Heberttrial here is #mystory on yesterday’s #testimony in the #murder #trial, uncovering “criminal underworld” #SLAWMayhem #jury @wdtnews

Fist witness in #Heberttrial, Jason Smith, is in custody and is the third person to #testify with a #criminal background in the #murder #trial #SLAWMayhem @wdtnews

In an approximate 20 minute recording of a #jail call between Smith & Hebert, Herbert is heard saying he “Have you talked about our friend out there?” Adding “that’s eventually going to be something to pop up... W. T. Eckert

“Let our animal friends do their jobs,” Hebert is heard saying in the call with Smith. #Heberttrial #murder #trial @wdtnews — at St. Lawrence County Courthouse

Bonnie Sue Lamay, the #mother of Lacey Yekel, Hebert’s alleged #victim, was called to the stand briefly Thursday to #testify in the #Heberttrial she gave DNA to #police. @wdtnews #SLAWMayhem #murder #trial — at St. Lawrence County Courthouse W. T. Eckert

Ms. LaMay has been sitting in the #courtroom everyday, with Ms. Yekel’s cousin Bobbie Jo French. Both women have been sobbing through the #testimony recounting the 2014 #death of Ms. Yekel

#Trial breaks for lunch. #Crossexamination of Smith to continue at 1 p.m.

#jury in the #Heberttrial was shown photos of a bone that was found in the woods behind near 50 Trade Road, Massena, during #testimony of state police investigator

#Investigator reveals the actual bone from #evidence bag, prompting #judge to warn #jurors and audience of #gruesome nature

The bone, chipped and of a brownish hue, was not to be considered by the #jury for its #emotional value and the audience was told to #keepcalm by the judge.

Lacey Yekel’s mother and cousin we heard whimpering as the #investigator revealed a bone that is believed to be Ms. Yekel’s #remains found behind and industrial park in Massena in Aug. 2014

#jurors are being shown #photos of a #decayed human #skull, spinal cord and scatted bones found by investigators on Aug. 29, 2014 in their #murder investigation of Lacey Yekel

#Photo #evidence continues to be shown to the #jury in the #Heberttrial of the scene where the remains of Lacey Yekel were found

Juror Replaced In Hebert Murder Trial (with clip)

Mar 18, 2019

"...There are three witnesses left to testify...

In opening statements, Pasqua said jurors would hear a recording of Hebert confessing to an ex-girlfriend how and why he had killed Yekel.

Presumably that is the recording that will be played on Tuesday.

Hebert's lawyers have said that all of Hebert's confessions were lies meant to impress other criminals that he ran with or met in prison.

They say Yekel died of a drug overdose.

It will be up to the jurors to decide what they believe."

Ex-girlfriend testifies Hebert confessed to murder during jailhouse conversations

MARCH 19, 2019

"CANTON — It was a score that went south that led to the alleged murder of Lacey L. Yekel in 2014, according to the ex-girlfriend of Christopher A. Hebert, the man accused of the crime.

Brandy Bressard told the court she and Hebert had been in a serious relationship between late 2009 and early 2014, at one point being engaged.

A convicted drug felon in 2013, Ms. Bressard said she stayed in touch with Hebert throughout her recovery and at one point they talked about getting back together.

Then she received a call within the first two weeks of June 2014 from Hebert....

Court broke for lunch until 1 p.m. and Mr. Pasqua told the court he would be playing a two-hour recording of Ms. Bressard’s conversation with Hebert following the break."

Prosecution rests in Massena murder trial; Hebert to take the stand Weds. as sole defense witness

March 19, 2019

"CANTON -- Christopher Hebert will take the witness stand on Wednesday as the only witness for the defense in his murder trial....

After District Attorney Gary Pasqua late on Tuesday afternoon rested the prosecution’s case, defense attorney Peter Dumas suggested the court adjourn for the day because he expects his client to go through a lengthy examination.

"If we start with this witness, it's likely to go for a while,” Dumas said.

"Anyone other than the defendant?" Judge Jerome Richards asked, to which Dumas replied “No

The prosecution’s case wrapped up after hearing a recording from Brandy Bressard, who said she and Hebert dated from 2009 to 2014...."

The trial resumes Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. in St. Lawrence County Court."

Update: Hebert trial adjourns with no verdict; deliberations resume Thursday morning

March 20, 2019

"CANTON -- Jurors in the Christopher Hebert murder trial were sent home for the evening around 8 p.m. Wednesday night and will resume deliberations on Thursday morning at 9:15 a.m...

Around 7:30 p.m., Judge Jerome Richards called the jurors into the courtroom and warned them that their deliberations could be heard outside the courthouse. He said the jurors had opened a window in the jury room for air and a court officer who had stepped outside could hear them and reported it to the judge.

"You need to keep your volume down so no one has access to your deliberations," Richards told the jurors, who all nodded affiratively.

Jurors around 6:30 Wednesday night asked to hear a recording of a phone call between the defendant and a woman named Julia Larock from around the time Hebert was arrested for murder...."
