GUILTY WA - Hartley Anderson, 5, murdered by mother's boyfriend, Vancouver, 2 Nov 2018

Ryan Burge, 37, is accused of killing his former girlfriend Nataasha Luchau's daughter on Friday. Burge is being held on $5 million bail. He will appear in court again today.

Burge has been in a relationship with the girl's mother for about three months. He was in charge of watching 5-year-old Hartley Anderson on Friday (Nov. 2) while her mother was at work and siblings were at school. Around 5 p.m. that evening, medics found the girl unconscious and "bleeding badly" with severe head trauma at her home. Police say they were told the little girl injured herself while having a tantrum.

Ryan M. Burge, 37, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Clark County Superior Court to killing his girlfriend’s 5-year-old daughter.

The next hearing in Burge’s case was scheduled for March 12. His trial is currently set for June 3, but Burge’s defense attorney Renee Alsept gave notice that she’d likely be asking for more time, as well as co-counsel. The state has two attorneys trying the case, court records show.

Bail reduced in case of Vancouver man charged with killing 5-year-old girl

"Ryan M. Burge, who stands accused of killing his then-girlfriend’s 5-year-old daughter in November, had his bail reduced Thursday by millions of dollars.

Clark County Superior Court Judge Scott Collier, the second judge to be assigned the case, set Burge’s bail at $1.5 million. Judge Bernard Veljacic had previously granted the prosecution’s request for $5 million bail.

Defense attorney Renee Alsept did not make a specific request for bail during Burge’s arraignment in December. On Tuesday, Alsept requested a reduction to $200,000.

Burge was charged with first- and second-degree murder in the death of Hartley Anderson...

Man facing murder charge in death of girlfriend's 5-year-old daughter appears in court

"A 37-year-old accused of killing his girlfriend’s young daughter appeared in a Clark County courtroom on Tuesday.

Ryan Burge is facing second-degree murder charges....

... He has since pleaded not guilty to the murder charges.

On Tuesday, KATU News reporters found out it will be nearly a year before Burge is back in court.

Hartley’s family says it will be worth the wait for the trial if they get the results they want.

“As long as our attorneys have the time they need to do the job for justice, we can deal with that," said Whitney Luchau, Hartley’s aunt.

The hearing to decide if the case is ready for trial will happen in January, 2020."

"A Vancouver man is calling on Clark County prosecutors to offer no plea deal to the alleged killer of his 5-year-old daughter, and more than 10,000 others have signed a petition joining him.

Peter Anderson started the change.org petition in mid-July. A plea deal instead of a life sentence would not be “justice in any way, shape or form for my Daughter,” he wrote....

Burge’s trial is currently scheduled for February 3. An update Friday to Anderson’s petition states the Clark County prosecutor’s office may have declined an initial plea offer, but that could not be confirmed Saturday...."

He’s now charged with 1st-degree murder in the death of Hartley Anderson at the Madison Park Apartments on Friday. Initially, Burge was charged with 2nd-degree murder and assault of a child.

“The defendant made his first appearance on charges of murder in the second-degree, however, the state has filed murder in the first-degree — that’s a much great crime,” Camara Banfield, chief deputy prosector, said.
