Search underway for missing county man
While the Ohio Department of Natural Resources searched McKarns Lake Tuesday afternoon, the family of Anthony Wyse paced the banks of the St. Joseph River on the other side of County Road J and sheriff’s deputies canvassed the rest of Williams County.

Wyse, 35, is 5-foot-6 with brown hair. He was last seen leaving work at 4 p.m. Monday. At 12:33 a.m. Tuesday, someone called 911 to report finding his truck in the small, upper parking lot that overlooks the lake.

Williams County ODNR Wildlife Officer Austin Dickinson stayed close to the lake all day, walking the shoreline with Fulton County’s Wildlife Officer Josh Zientek.

Shortly before 3 p.m. their supervisor, Troy Reimund started patrolling the south shore of the lake with Maumee Watercraft Officer Neil Brokamp in a sonar-equipped long boat. They ran between the upper and lower parking lots over thin ice. Most of the lake is still covered.

Law enforcement search for missing Montpelier man

Towns reported that the area had been searched and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources also searched the lake on Tuesday with sonar equipment and a K-9 unit.

"We're eliminating all possibilities," said Towns, Wednesday morning during a phone interview. "We've checked the area for the last two days."

The sheriff also noted that law enforcement was watching for any "movement" on Wyse' bank accounts. In addition, the man's cellphone also is reportedly turned off.

There is no definitive evidence that he is in the water, but there’s nothing definitive to say he’s not. ODNR personnel will continue their search of the lake this week.

Water search for missing man suspended

“We haven’t found anything specific,” Williams County EMS Director Jim Hicks said at the scene Thursday morning. “We’re putting divers in the water because we want to get eyes on everything before we de-escalate resources.”

In a phone interview Friday morning, Williams County Sheriff Steve Towns said “ODNR is done for now but we’re going to keep trying to see what we can come up with. We still don’t have anything definitive to work with. Everything is still on the table.”

The sheriff’s office also pinged Wyse’s cell phone and traced it back to the area around his truck but there have been no signals from the phone since Monday.

“I called BCI (the state Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification) and talked to their cell phone forensic analysts yesterday,” Towns said. “They’re going to do their stuff and get us some kind of report.

“We never rule anything out,” Towns said. “We’re not predicting anything either — He may still turn up OK somewhere else and we may go back there. May go back after it warms up, when the river goes down and the ice melts off the lake.
