In late January the lead detective in this case spoke to a law firm acting as a conservator for a trust fund for Lee Earnest Longmire, 20, of Lawrenceville. It was discovered that in Dec. 2018, Lee's mother, Yvonne Longmire, 58, of Lawrenceville, fraudulently presented Maurice Ford, 23, of Atlanta as her son, Lee, to a Probate Court and a physician. They convinced the Probate Court and the physician that Lee no longer had as severe a case of mental disability and no longer needed a conservator over his trust fund. Maurice pretended to be Lee and presented false testimony and fraudulently obtained documents to support their scam.

The false testimony relinquished $200,000 to Yvonne and Maurice, however, before the money could be withdrawn, the former conservator attorney and his paralegal became suspicious of Lee's identity. They realized that no one had physically seen Lee in several years. An investigation was launched and ultimately Lee became a ward of the State and was provided a guardian through the Division of Family and Children Services. Several attempts have been made to have in person contact with Lee but they have been to no avail.

Warrants for the arrest of Yvonne Longmire and Maurice Ford were obtained. Maurice was recently arrested in Phoenix, Arizona and is currently awaiting extradition.

The exact whereabouts of Yvonne are unknown. She is currently charged with perjury, forgery, identity theft, theft by deception, criminal solicitation, and exploitation of an at-risk adult. She is believed to be driving a green 2006 Ford F-150 bearing Georgia Tag "PRE 3129."

The whereabouts of Lee Earnest Longmire are also unknown.

Gwinnett cops: Mother tries to steal missing disabled son’s trust fund

Mother Tries To Scam Mentally Disabled Son, Son Now Missing: Cops

Can we say "Mommy Dearest"? I had a new neighbor once who told me his mother stole his furniture and his disability checks. I didn't believe him. Now I'm not so sure.

The reason they became suspicious of Ford is because he went into the office and introduced himself as Maurice and then quickly said Lee. Ugh... dumb criminals. Hope nothing has happened to Lee. To have a so-called mother that would do that to you? Awful...

In January, the paralegal who handled the Longmire case knew something wasn't right. Shesays Ford showed up to pick up the trust check payment and accidentally introduced himself as "Maurice," before correcting himself saying he was "Lee Longmire."

Police now have several felony warrants for Yvonne Longmire, but she can't be found at her home. Also, it seems that no one can account for Lee Longmire and, giving his mental health, police are extremely worried about his well-being.

"We're wanting to make sure that we put eyes on him," Cpl. Rundles said. "[We want to] make sure he's in good health."

Police searching for mother who tricked court to get disabled son's trust fund

A man with special needs from Lawrenceville is missing and his mother is on the run after police say she scammed the courts and tried to collect $200,000 from her son's medical trust fund. Yvonne Longmire is now facing several charges and police say they want to find her son, 20-year-old Lee Earnest Longmire, to make sure he is okay.

In late January, Gwinnett Police detectives say they discovered that Yvonne had brought a man to probate court the previous month to pose as her son, claiming, under oath, that a doctor had declared her son was no longer severely mentally disabled. Police say Yvonne testified that her son's medical trust fund--established by a relative years earlier--was no longer needed for his care. The judge agreed and ordered the money released to Yvonne-- $200,000.

Just in time, an attorney and paralegal got suspicious. Police investigated. Now, the Longmires have disappeared.

Ms. Longmire is facing a handful of felonies. Police say she could be driving a 2006 green Ford F-150 with tag number PRE-3129.

While of course stealing from a disabled man is beyond wrong, it's a relief to hear they didn't do that dark thing we'd feared.

I'm grateful to hear Lee is safe and will still have the money he needs for his future expenses, and bless that attorney who trusted his suspicions and reported this. LE has not released where Lee was, but I suspect he wasn't in the best place if he wasn't with anyone who was aware the trust fund had been redirected or that he was considered missing. He might've been simply "turned out" of his home and left to find his own lodging, versus set up in a therapeutic group home where contact with his family was maintained.

TL;DR - That attorney might've rescued him from a bad situation, the $200K notwithstanding.
