Found Alive WI - Jayme Closs, 13, Barron, missing after parents found shot, 15 Oct 2018 *Arrest* #44

An impact statement from the Closs family should be on file for reference, even if it is not read in court. That way years down the line, if this sick pr*ck ever gets the opportunity at parole, due to changes in the legal system, the parole board will remember why JPs request should be denied. Memories fade, people directly affected pass away, but JC is very, very young. She should never, ever in her entire lifetime, have to be concerned that he will be released. An impact statement that represents the entire family (aunts, grandfather, etc.) would put the focus on them, not the perp. That way JP doesn't think that JC was "speaking to him," or "writing to him" or any other convoluted, stupid, twisted perception he could come up with.

Good point you make.

That those family members were direct siblings and direct bloodline to her parents who were viciously murdered; so by the court definition, I would think they would be considered victim statement allowable.

Thanks for reminding me of that.

I'm guessing he'll end up in Waupun or Portage. The farther away from her, the better. I notice one is a Supermax, so I don't know the classification about where he'll end up.

Columbia Correctional Institute, in Portage, Wisconsin, is a maximum-security prison. Jeffrey Dahmer was incarcerated there, until someone helped him meet his Maker ;)

Should be interesting to see where JP gets his extended stay.:D

Great news to see he plead guilty, not that I'm at all surprised.
Personally, I would not give a victim impact statement. I would not ever give him another moment of time. JP will die in prison either by his own hands, the hands of another or of sickness and/or old age.

Very glad to hear this news - I have mixed feelings about the sentencing - whether she should be there or not. It seems she is being guided well so will assume the family will make the best decision for her. I do wish that they could put her behind a partition so he doesn't get the chance to see her one last time. JMO Prayers to the family.

I don’t think he will be able to restrain himself from trying to speak to Jayme or get her attention it is obvious he is still obsessed with her. It could set back Jayme’s mental recovery going through that as PTSD is very likely.

A Chris Scarver type would be amazing with this nutjob. Someone to bother him for all eternity the way he did to Jayme and her family.

I have mixed feelings about impact statements. I have to believe a Judge knows the sentence they are going to impose was decided before walking into the court room.

The other side is it gives family members the opportunity to express their feelings and the loss they have to live with.

For Jayme I do not see her reading a statement in court. Perhaps read by a representative or via video. Besides her parents who are at rest now; Jayme is the survivor that has decades of life, memories of that night and the three months she was captive, to live with the rest of her life.

I support whatever Jayme and family decide.

I too support whatever they decide. James and Denise's family members as well may decide to make statements--or not. For some it may be an opportunity to express their outrage and tell him what they think and it may be closure of a sort. The final chapter and they have the control unlike the first chapter which was due to his heinous acts. Then throw away the key, watch him marched out in shackles and when that door closes, that is the end of his reign of terror.

On the other hand, they may also decide he is not worth it. It is, however, I believe all part of the overall record isn't it (asking), which can be another reason to do a statement. I also believe things can be said in this scenario that could not be said at trial (had there been one). It is no one else's decision and is a very personal one and I would not doubt even individual family members may vary on whether they want to or not.

Think to some of the cases we have seen through the years. Sharon Rocha comes to mind first for me--she had I think a need to express her outrage for Lacey and Connor and she deserved that right. She also if I recall correctly stated a bit about where he was going and how the verdict was correct and oh so deserved. She struck me as she needed to do this at the end of a long horrendous road and I am glad she was able to. She also struck me as she had a very deep need to do this for Lacey and Connor who could not speak. It is also likely the first time from day one until sentencing that family can speak freely and not have to worry about affecting a case or ongoing investigation.

All jmo and speculation--it is a personal decision for each I would think and no one else's.

Edited to correct a word.

He was probably trying to talk him out of pleading so early in the game. It would be malpractice to not do that.

Not sitting there at the table like that. That would be unheard of. They already announced his decision.

And it would not be malpractice to fail to try convince him not to plead unless the facts showed he was innocent or had a viable defense.

He most likely will be nowhere near his own family either for easy visits unless location is part of the deal but nothing was stated with regard to that. This was a plea deal but nothing was said about the plea including what prison he may go to (it was often formerly speculated that was one thing they could maybe gain in a plea agreement--which prison he was sent to). jmo.

Eww. He cried out her name?

The courtroom mics were switched off after the sentencing hearing but reporters packing it in and people leaving the courtroom clearly witnessed it and heard him say “bye Jayme”. HLN (and other) media reported there was an “audible gasp” from onlookers after it happened. I believe it was HLN that also reported hearing him yell “F-word” as he was led out. The guards didn’t look too happy with him. Video w/out audio shows him saying “something” . . . From Inside Edition:

I’m thinking Columbia or Dodge (Portage or Waupun) State Prison. Chris Watts was transferred to Waupun WI: Killer Chris Watts Transferred To Wisconsin Prison Dodge Correctional Institution, Notorious For Murderers

Yep, it looked to me like those guards pretty much shoved him through the door after that! The media has made many errors, in this case and every.single.other one I have followed, but they were all in agreement here that he said "Bye Jayme." MOO

Thank goodness! A trial would have been so hard on Jayme, in my opinion.
I was a juror on a child molester's trial. Four of the victims testified. The oldest was 17. The youngest was 9. It was heartbreaking to watch them try to hold it together and testify against him, particularly the youngest girl. I am SO glad that Jayme doesn't have to go through that. What she has been through already is horrifying. MOO

I may be one of the only few who still thinks JP is a dangerous predator. His whole persona to me is off kilter, strange in a way I haven't seen in other killers. It's back to my original assessment of him being an Enigma.

He's a cold blooded killer, now even by his own admission, but has a quiet and reclusive demeanor about him. I still believe he would have killed Jayme had she not escaped, and if not caught, I truly believe he would have done this again.

I absolutely believe this creep is a very dangerous predator. He deserves every day he gets until dies in prison.

He whimpered, and boo hooed for himself only. Imo He hated his notoriety had finally come to an end, but cowardly worried what would be shown in a trial showing him capable of the most heinous violent acts imaginable.

He wasn't stupid, he knew he would be convicted, and he knew it would have shown everyone what a truly evil man he is. He knew his own family would have to see his horrific acts, that would fully expose him for the monster he is.. It would have shown everyone how truly diabolical, and evil he is.

Now him being in the limelight is over. He will wither away never accomplishing anything positive in his worthless life.

No more bravado about how well he carried out his diabolical plot.

No more making a traumatized child feel uncomfortable by his sicko I love yous, trying to imply Jamie enjoyed being kidnapped against her will.

He knows his disgusting secrets remain hidden because the DA had the decency to not divulge what this monster made Jayme endure for 88 agonizing days, after knowing HE was the very one who had brutally murdered her loving parents in cold blood.

The only regret I have is this state did not have the death penalty, for he truly deserved nothing less.

Imo

<modsnip>

He's likely trying to send letters or communication out to Jayme through various people. I hope the jail does not allow him outside communication except with his attorney.

<modsnip> he got an unfriendly grab and push out of the courtroom by the "escorting" officer. (see video from 1:35 to 1:45.) You can see the defendant speak and, as soon as the officer can get a hold of Patterson's shirt, he shoves him out the door and *poof* ...all gone.

I agree it's Patterson relinquishing control on his own terms (in his mind, anyway.)
As in, "I'll be the one to say when we're done, Jayme. You escaped but I'm still here. I've pleaded guilty so I decided to let you go."
He's wrong though. Jayme ended it... she won.

Have you ever filed a motion to suppress evidence of any kind? The attorney didnt even have a chance to do that because of Patterson ‘s rush to plead. You never know what’s going to happen at a suppression hearing.
