Still Missing Australia - Roxlyn Bowie, 31, Walgett, NSW, 5 June 1982 *husband guilty 2022*

‘Police believe a diamond ring may help solve the disappearance and suspected murder of New South Wales mother Roxlyn Bowie 37 years ago.’

‘Detectives did forensic tests on a home in the northern NSW town yesterday and have now lodged an appeal to try to find the ring, which is believed to be Ms Bowie's.

A Current Affair has been told the search included the use of 3D-imaging cameras to map every room of the house.

Forensic police will also move through the premises, using a chemical known as luminol in an attempt to detect any trace of blood.

ACA crime editor Simon Bouda, who has been investigating Ms Bowie’s disappearance, said he had been told luminol could detect human blood even from decades ago.

The diamond ring hasn't been seen since it was bought at a Bankstown pawn shop on June 6, 1984. Police have released a picture of a similar ring in a bid to get public help to track it down.’

Hunt on for diamond ring in Roxlyn Bowie case
BBM

If it was bought at a pawn shop, two years later, the buyer couldn't be the second wife. I guess they are hoping to find the next owners, unrelated to the crime.

Not every murderer is as shameless as CDawson... If there can be some distinction!

Haha, no he's in a class of his own. Sorry I didn't register the pawn shop part. Brain fade today

Ring, scalpel packaging uncovered as police search for clues about missing mum’s disappearance ( not the diamond ring but a silver ring with R)

It is thought to be a ring which was produced by Avon - a company for which Roxlyn's now-deceased mother is believed to have worked as a sales representative.

In the same location, forensic police also unearthed the packaging from a surgical scalpel blade made by British company Swann Morton.
Detectives have been told the brand was used by ambulance officers in the 1980s.

Isn’t John Bowie a retired ambulance driver? The plot thickens.

Sure is. They lived in the house though but so far underground. Sounds like some digging was done.

"
Bouda said he had been told all the items were found about a metre beneath the surface, in a paddock at the back of a house in the same street where the Bowies live.

All the items have been sent for forensic and DNA testing, and police are continuing to excavate key sites in the Walgett area."

Ex-husband arrested over Roxlyn Bowie's cold case death

And another arrest in a case that doesn't have a thread here.

Mr Bowie, now 69, was arrested at a jail on Queensland's Sunshine Coast this morning following an investigation into Ms Bowie's disappearance by the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad.

He is expected to be extradited to Sydney tomorrow.

Arrest news 'bittersweet'

Ms Bowie's daughter, Brenda Boyd, said her father's arrest had provided "a very bittersweet moment for our family".

"I'm so thankful that police never forgot about mum and never gave up trying to find out why she was so cruelly taken away from us.

"As we are still coming to terms with this news, our family requests privacy at this time."

Ms Boyd said her mother was kind and loving and she still thought about her daily.

"There are many things I miss about her, including her shy and sweet smile," she said.

"She was a devoted mother — my brother and I never doubted how loved we were.

"She, too, was so loved by those who were lucky to meet her."

Husband arrested in 40-year-old suspected murder cold case

This sounds a bit familiar. John Bowie stands trial over the murder of his then wife Roxlyn. Very similar to Lyn Dawson. Same year and a short time frame that it was suggested that they went missing. The accused in this case is now 70.

"A court has been told Roxlyn Bowie was killed by her husband 40 years ago while living in outback New South Wales so he could assume an "unfettered relationship" with another woman.

Crown prosecutor Alex Morris yesterday told a Supreme Court jury prosecutors would allege John Bowie murdered his wife sometime between the couple's children being put to bed at 7pm and Mr Bowie knocking on the door of his neighbour’s caravan about 11pm on the night of June 5, 1982, to ask for help."
