Found Deceased OR - Dennis Day, 76, former original Disney Mouseketeer, Phoenix, Jackson Co, 15 July 2018 *Arrest*

From news reports, LE had searched the home after he was reported missing last summer/fall. You would think they would have noticed the odor of decomp on the premises. There was also a "roommate" living there at the time who said Dennis just walked away. You'd think the roommate would have noticed the smell as well. JMO, he was killed or somehow died and his body buried or otherwise stored somewhere on the premises - basement, garage, storage shed, flower bed or garden plot.

Is it the roommate? Anxious to read what is revealed through the autopsy and investigation.

Wait, he disappeared from Oregon -- while his house is in Phoenix?

I'm confused!

Also, IIRC, Roommate/partner has a form of dementia. Possibly, any time Mr. Day went for a walk was recent to him?

ETA: oh, duh, Phoenix, Oregon.

No, the roommate is not the same as his partner. His partner was already in the hospital when he went missing. There was an additional odd roommate.

Dennis Day, former Disney Mouseketeer, has been missing since July 15, 2018. This report from the Oregon State Police was updated in September, but I can find nothing in MSM until December. This doesn’t sound good at all.

Mr. Day was last seen at his residence in Phoenix, OR on July 13, 2018. Day told his partner of over forty years that he was going away for a few days. Day's dog, which was rarely away from him was found wondering the area of the residence on July 15th. Day was last seen walking down his driveway to, "Leave with some friends for a few days" according to a live-in handy-man who Day claimed was assaulting him while living in the home according to a letter found later in the investigation. Day's 1996 White ford Escort Wagon was impounded by OSP on July 26, 2018 along the Oregon coast. The vehicle was occupied by two subjects not known to be acquainted with Day or his partner.

Bumping this to refresh memories. Also bolding disturbing portion about roommate.

There is a bunch of weird stuff in this case fore me, other than his body has just been found inside his already searched home!
  • Why was his dog out roaming the streets?
  • He was last seen in his driveway saying he was leaving, so why was he found inside his home?
  • Why did cadaver dogs not pick up a hit on his scent in his house if he was there all along?
  • Where is this third roommate, why/how was he assaulting Mr. Day, why was it never reported, etc etc
  • Why was Day's car found in the hands of random people cruising the coast who Day and his partner did not know? What ever became of these people?
  • Why was Dennis family not notified he was missing until 6 months after he disappeared?!?!
  • Apparently the third roommate also had Day's debit card?! But I can't find a source for this tidbit right now, so I'll categorize this as a rumor.
I am reading an article right now in which Dennis's family calls this a "poorly-handled investigation" and I am inclined to agree with them at this point!

Dennis Day: Missing Disney Mouseketeer Was Apparently 'Reclusive' Ahead of Disappearance

Dennis Day, one of Disney's original Mouseketeers during the 1950s, was "reclusive" in the days before his disappearance in July 2018, police said.

Phoenix, Oregon Police Lt. Jeff Price told Fox News he discovered during his investigation that Day, 76, and his husband Ernie Caswell rarely left their home and had few friends.

“His sister doesn’t like it when I say he [and his husband Ernie Caswell] were kind of reclusive,” Price told Fox News Friday. “They didn’t leave the house. They have friends, but not that many. They weren’t social and if you saw the house you would see that they didn’t leave the house. It’s in very bad shape — very, very poor shape.”

Did none of his family go to his house?

From an Dateline NBC article linked farther up the thread, Dennis' sister and her family lived in the Los Angeles area. IIRC, they last went to visit with him several months before he disappeared. He and his partner had visited LA regularly over the years, for holidays, etc. but sounds like they hadn't visited recently. Dennis had no family that lived nearby. I got the impression he was a private guy and his sister respected his privacy.

JMO, they expected if anything happened to him, his partner would contact them, not realizing his partner was in the hospital and suffering from dementia.

If the body turns out to be Mr. Day:
How in the world did the body get overlooked in the prior search of the house? His body was moved there some time after?
Or, he had been alive but away somewhere, came back home and then only recently died in the house?

If the body is not Mr. Day:
If the house has been vacant (Day missing, partner in assisted living place, handyman out), could it be possible a squatter broke in and died there?

This is so sad a case.

Thank you!! I've been asking that question for the past two days since they found the body. Allegedly the police searched the house shortly after he went missing and did not find him, just the "roommate" (Not the husband, someone else). The family says the police botched the search because Dennis was older, poor, and gay. And I think they're right. This is a disgrace.

Sorry, I should have clarified - after they found out he was missing in January. I got mixed up, thought he had relatives in Oregon.

Ernie reported him missing in July? After not visiting him for a while? Isn’t there next of kin or emergency info when admitted to the hospital- I’m guessing Dennis’s contact information would have been in Ernies file.
If they could not locate Dennis and with the strange circumstances with the car, etc. - did LE not attempt to notify his sister or other relatives? Strange things going on.....

If the house was in very bad shape I wonder if that means hoarding... wouldn't be the first time cops missed a body in such a situation.

The husband couldn't remember Dennis's family's contact information due to his dementia.
