Rockingham man charged with murder of Rebecca Anne Delalande

2 November 2018

"Police have charged a 45-year-old man with the murder of missing woman Rebecca Anne Delalande....

Det Sen-Sgt Stephen said information from the public and police’s ongoing investigation had led them to this area of interest. But he would not reveal details of any links between the accused man and this site, where it’s believed “further evidence will be obtained”, nor whether the accused and Ms Delalande were known to each other....

Det Sen-Sgt Stephen said the man charged, who was arrested yesterday morning, had been co-operative and assisted police with their inquiries.

He said police had no other information that would lead them anywhere else.

The Rockingham man will appear in Perth Magistrates Court today charged with murder."

Missing Perth woman Lisa Brown

Today, after legal argument heard in a closed court, Justice Michael Corboy brought the jurors back into the courtroom and told them there had been some "developments" in the case.

"In the course of the first few days, evidence has come to light about the disappearance of Ms Delalande that requires further investigation," he said.

"It is necessary the trial be terminated to enable further inquiries to be undertaken."

Justice Corboy has officially discharged the jury.

The case was adjourned until tomorrow for further legal argument and Mr Blennerhassett was remanded in custody.

“Lisa Brown was a mother of two young children, she was also a daughter and a sister,” West Australia Police Minister Michelle Roberts said at the time.

“Her killer remains at large and her family deserves answers. Detectives are confident more than one person in the community knows what happened to Lisa but for whatever reason have not spoken up.”

Rebecca Delalande, a 23-year-old sex worker who had never been reported missing, was friends with Lisa Brown.

Aussie prosecutor Ben Stanwix told the court that police only “happened upon” the disappearance of Delalande during a 2017 review of Brown’s disappearance.

Investigators concluded she had been beaten to death in a Perth-area home in November 2001.

At the time she was involved in a relationship with a man named Chris Blennerhassett, now 46.

During an argument in the bedroom of the house they shared, it’s alleged that Blennerhassett battered Delalande about the head.

He then disposed of her body “in a way that it can never be found.”

Here is another couple of reports about the murder case mentioned in the above post:

Did Vernon's imagination get away from him, about the Leopold Nickel case?
Did he imagine sequestered wealth that didn't exist?
Did he fancy that he could obtain some of that which he imagined, through force, or ransom?
Or did someone else think so, after he told embellished stories of a "great big Nickel swindle back in the 70's"?
Did his father connect the dots over what happened in Cottesloe in 1988 and threaten to go to the police?

Just catching up on this thread. Neat idea although I think it's a long bow, mainly because VS seems like such a mess. Perhaps in concert with someone else? Maybe BS and everything went pear shaped?
