Germany Germany - Rebecca Reusch, 15, Berlin, 18 Feb 2019 #2

i had never heard that before i moved to europe, but yes, it is something people say (@bladder infection.) . maybe it's an old wives' tale, but i have a friend who has always told me this, and i've been told not to sit directly on the snow or cold ground by a doctor once, too, or possibly get a UTI. sounds wacky, but i tend to think it's a common way of thinking here during the winters.
I need to start carrying a blanket with me now. The question about the blanket is the most common thing I see. Maybe that interview was redacted.

I never heard that the mother gave an explanation for her taking the blanket as to not get an infection... I think that story is super fishy to me, in the beginning when everyone was talking about the blanket the parents swore up and down she had no boyfriend or love interest to meet with. Wouldn’t this have been the perfect time to tell the blanket/uti/Maxi conversation???
is there a source for this? It sounds like a made up story in hindsight so that the investigators track down Maxi instead. Which, totally makes sense for a family who is unconvinced that the police are looking in the right direction.
I agree that their inability to stop and say that they’re willing to try other avenues is so so detrimental to the case and seems pretty unprofessional.
I don’t like how every bit they find though, the family turns around and has some strange explanation that feels much too late.
I do think it’s absurd that LE said rebecca did not make it out of the house alive without the evidence. It’s one thing to assume it, but another completely to declare it to the media as fact.
I totally agree with you. The dad was saying really really weird stuff in the same interview. They didn't tell the cops what they needed to know up front. They withheld information (very important information) for weeks and weeks. It doesn't appear like they are trying like a desperate mom and dad to locate their daughter. But, the sister Jessica is the only one that seems to genuinely be putting in her heart to find her. The parents are just acting odd to me.

Looking for Rebecca Reusch also unsuccessful on Thursday
The Berlin police have continued their search for the missing 15-year-old Rebecca Reusch from Berlin-Neukölln on Thursday in Brandenburg - no tangible result. The spokesman said in the evening on request. As on Wednesday, the mission focused on the area around Lake Herzberg. According to the police, specialists from the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) were once again involved in combing through a forest. Forces leaped through the woods with spades. Whether search continued on Friday, the speaker did not say.
Rebecca Reusch verschwunden: Auch neue Suche der Polizei am Herzberger See ohne Erfolg

Search area is based on BILs whereabouts and tips from the public,it seems ...
<There are now 2,300 references to the case. Why is now just this forest piece is searched, the police did not explain. "The search measures depend on the results of investigations and information," a police spokeswoman told RTL.>

And here is a quote from Vermisste Rebecca Reusch aus Berlin: Polizei durchsucht erneut Waldgebiet an Herzberger See
"Florian R. wurde aus der Untersuchungshaft entlassen. Ein Ermittlungsrichter sah keinen dringenden Tatverdacht mehr./Florian R. was released from pre-trial detention. An investigating judge saw no more urgent suspicion."

RR's father has urged the BIL to tell the police the reasons for his two car trips the two days after she disappeared. He is not talking on advice of counsel. What else does LE have other than the two car trips to justify the continued searching for a body. The hair in the trunk was not hers, no cadaver dog has hit on the home or the car. Other than the early declaration by LE that she did not leave the house alive what could they have on him.
If those two trips are drug related then he absolutely cannot say that to LE as the reason for the trips because he will be arrested and charged and put on trial. If the unknown reason for the trips is the primary evidence against BIL then this may never be resolved.

Wait. I thought they said the hair did belong to RR, but they claimed she was playing in the car with the other child?

As for scent dogs, has LE ever come out with any declarations about any ‘hits’ at the home, or car?

This might never be resolved because someone appears to be getting away with a murder. IMO and JMO.

The brother-in-law, however, is relieved by another investigation result. As an indication, a hair was found in the trunk of his car. Contrary to the first guess, however, the hair is clearly not from Rebecca. The police believe it is possible that the body was being carried in the trunk - so hair played an important role in the chain of evidence. BBM

Also, you are right LE didn't say that cadaver dogs didn't have a hit but it is odd to me that if the dogs had, LE didn't make that statement in support of their statement that she didn't leave the home alone.

Police are searching for Rebecca with dogs and helicopters
The Berlin police again searched on Tuesday for the missing 15-year-old Rebecca at Herzberger Lake in East-Brandenburg.
About 35 police officers and helpers were deployed there on Tuesday, a spokesman said. They were supported by tracking dogs and a helicopter. In recent weeks, men from the Technical Relief Agency (THW) were there when whole forest pieces were combed.

Interview | Ex-profiler about the Rebecca case"It's definitely too early to talk about a cold case"

For eight weeks missing from the 15-year-old Rebecca from Berlin every trace. Are the investigators stuck in a dead end? In no case, emphasizes the experienced profiler Axel Petermann in the rbb | 24 interview. He still sees some possibilities.

rbb | 24: Mr. Petermann, the 15-year-old Rebecca has disappeared for eight weeks, all searches have so far been unsuccessful, the investigation of the case stagnates. How do you assess the current situation, how far is the police from the solution of the case?

Axel Petermann: Of course that's difficult to answer. It seems that the brother-in-law of Rebecca continues to be suspicious. The only thing missing is the evidence - and I imagine that they will try to find new evidence against the brother-in-law, or have already checked forensic investigate, and then gain new clues for his perpetration. At the same time, of course, it's also about finding the place where Rebecca is either dead or hidden. Also this place could give indications to the perpetrator.

The investigators assume that Rebecca has not left the brother-in-law's home alive. Do you share this assessment?

The investigators will surely have good reasons to believe so. Of course, I do not know what they are fixing. Possible factors may be their behavior with the internet or cell phone calls. Or WhatsApp messages - or whatever was dropped off or received. On the other hand, it does not seem to be the case here that one has objective evidence that clearly demonstrates a killing.

A trace seems to have smashed, yes, the hair that was found in the trunk of the brother-in-law's car. Recently there have been reports that they are not from Rebecca. How do you rate that?

For the hair, it would have mattered how many hairs are. After all, people lose hair more or less every second. This is not necessarily an indication that Rebecca was being transported dead in the trunk of the vehicle. And if that is not the case anymore, then I am very surprised that there was wrong information. DNA results of a study can actually be available relatively quickly.

If you were to investigate now, what would be your next steps? Do you have an idea what exactly could lead out of this investigation back alley that there obviously?

I would deal with exactly what puts pressure on the brother in law. On the other hand, I would try to put aside everything that has been identified so far, and begin again with an entirely new assessment of the circumstances of the disappearance of Rebecca. Of course, this also includes the interpretation of the existing tracks.

Let's face it, in these little cars Rebecca's hair would have been in trunk if she had thrown her overnight bags in there.

At this point I have to believe with the money the police are spending on these searches they have circumstantial evidence against the brother in law which they have not released to the public and certainly not the family for fear the father may go after him before they get a conviction.

Or, is LE pursuing these searches because that is all they can do at this point to appear active. LE did not get involved for four days after her reported disappearance because they figured she may come back. Then they called in homicide units on Thursday who nearly immediately declared that she had not left the home alive (before all evidence had been collected and tested) and declared the BIL a POI. This declaration seems to have been based on his making a phone call when he said he was asleep, was he setting up a drug deal for later that morning down the A2 somewhere? If so, why would he tell the truth about that and go to jail?
Her phone was turned off, all that is, is a fact that it was turned off, there is no way to know the motive for that, maybe she wanted to be not tracked because she was meeting someone later. Yet, the assumption that BIL did it because he had just murdered her is the one LE went with. Why?
It seems to me LE decided on a theory, that BIL killed her in the home and disposed of her body down the A2 somewhere but unfortunately for them, the evidence that they later found is not supporting this theory, but that isn't stopping them. Why? I wonder where they would be if they had let the evidence lead them to a POI instead of choosing the POI first and then looking for evidence. Seems backwards to me. MOO

I really want to support LE in most cases...

So... I have to think there must be a reason for this LE to believe so strongly that there was a murder...
And that the BIL was responsible...

Yet... I have yet to figure out what this fairly adamant conviction by the LE comes from...

I am baffled...

Another possibility: LE forensic science experts traced Max or Maxi's IP address, and are searching areas where he frequented, and not letting on for fear he may flee. I can't imagine they would ignore this potential suspect. It speaks volumes that he deleted his account 2 days after she went missing.

Perhaps, she took the blanket with her because she was meeting him (or someone else) and they were driving out to walk along the lake and sit and talk and the day turned out differently. I always assumed those search areas were identified by LE as being areas BIL might have taken her, alive or not.

Rebecca Reusch vermisst: Zeugin machte Beobachtung, die Wende bedeuten kann | Welt
Florian R. Has returned to living in the house.

New tips the family has received:

“Recently, the family received a new hint: A ten-year-old witness remembers seeing a crying girl in front of Rebecca's school, just on the day of the disappearance. The witness described the girl as tall and pretty. "She also asked her if she could give her her cell phone because she wanted to call her parents. There were several guys around the girl and they insulted her. I think the girl was scared, "explains Brigitte Reusch. As the mother continues, the girl then made a clear statement to the boys for the family. "Leave me alone, I'm going out of school anyway," said the blond girl, told the family witness. After that, the girl ran away.

A hint that the family takes very seriously. "It has fallen in between that she wants to leave school anyway and does not stay there. And that's exactly what we've been discussing for a long time. That she wants to do the program somewhere else, "explains Bernd Reusch in front of the camera”

“Someone called and said that he saw Rebecca in Poland, in a department store accompanied by a man..allegedly he had gone home and looked again at photos of the missing persons and was then sure: It was Rebecca, the man had mentioned the braces, in fact Rebecca was wearing braces and the girl he had have seen, speak German.. [she seemed] uncomfortable or something similar”

It's actually "she did NOT seem unconfortable"
