"For the crime spree and cocaine possession, he received concurrent six-year terms, and had a year tacked on for another stolen vehicle charge."

"Jones was imprisoned at Big Muddy Correctional Center on April 18, 2002, and was released on Jan. 15, 2003, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records."

And he worked for Intel? Don't they do background checks? Was he still working for Intel when he committed this final atrocity?

Search warrants say a man charged with killing his five children in South Carolina bought items used to destroy and dispose of human remains at a Walmart.

The search warrants were released by Lexington County deputies after a Freedom of Information Act request from The Associated Press.

They don't shed new light on the case against Timothy Jones. The warrants requesting permission to search Jones' house say a Walmart-Mart receipt for the products was found in Jones' SUV when he was arrested in Mississippi last month.

I am not familiar with american laws, does a gag order last forever or does it get lifted after the case is over?

And these children were placed in HIS custody... WHY??? :tantrum:

Sounds like the only place those kids would have been safe would be away from BOTH of their birth parents. :(

Those divorce papers were crazy....

Circuit Judge Thomas Russo ruled Friday that the Lexington County Sheriff's Department did not violate a gag order in releasing a criminal domestic violence complaint against accused killer Timothy Ray Jones Jr. Jones, the accused killer of five Lexington County children, once threatened to “snap” his wife’s neck, according to a 2012 incident report released by the sheriff’s department.

"I don't believe there was a willful violation, a technical violation of the gag order," Judge Russo said.

Russo said he may tighten his order to keep more documents public prior to a trial on charges that Jones killed his five children in late August.

The Lexington County man accused of killing his five children in September 2014 may or may not go before a jury in 2015.

Lawyers for Timothy Ray Jones Jr. have said Jones has a history of mental illness and have suggested he might plead insanity.

Prosecutors have not yet announced whether they will seek the death penalty for Jones. One attorney assisting the defense said it could be up to three years before Jones goes to trial, with lengthy mental evaluations expected to be a part of the pretrial process.

Timothy Ray Jones Jr. strangled four of his children and beat another to death last August, grand jury indictments made public Thursday say. It’s the first confirmation of the cause of death at the family’s Red Bank home, matching what some officials said previously.

Four of the children – Merah, 8; Elias, 7; Gabriel, 2; and Elaine, 1 – died “by means of strangulation and/or other violent means or instruments,” the indictments said. Another son, Nahtahn, 6, died after Jones beat him to death, the indictment said, noting “hitting or striking” killed the boy.

No further explanation of “instruments” is given, but search warrants previously said five belts were among items investigators found at the home. No other information is contained in the terse description of the crime in the indictments.

He strangled 4 and then beat the other to death? That's horrible beyond words.

I read that the mother is 28 and Timothy is 32. Her oldest child was 8, so she had her first child when she was 19 or 20. That's pretty young to start a family and get married these days. It also said that she had no money and Timothy had it all. Sounds like an abusive, controlling household from the jump.

From last month:

Timothy Ray Jones Jr. is facing the death penalty in connection with the deaths of his five children in Red Bank more than 15 months ago.

Eleventh Circuit Solicitor Donald Myers served notice of that decision at a court hearing Wednesday in Lexington County attended by Jones in his first court appearance in more than a year...

Circuit Judge Knox McMahon ordered a psychiatric evaluation of Jones at the request of prosecutors. “Competency is something that needs to be addressed,” Deputy Solicitor Shawn Graham said. “Our belief is that it will come into play at trial.”

Sounds like it will be a long time before it goes to trial, then...

Mother of 5 slain kids: SC agency could have stopped deaths
The mother of five South Carolina children who police say were killed by their father in 2014 says the state's social services agency knew the father was a threat and did nothing to stop him.

The allegations are part of a lawsuit filed last week by Amber Jones accusing the Department of Social Services of wrongful death and infliction of pain and suffering.

(...)

A Social Services spokeswoman declined to comment on the lawsuit, which gives a detailed chronology of Jones' criminal past, including 2001 convictions for drug possession and forgery. It also notes his 2004 marriage to Amber Jones and the subsequent births of their five children.

(...)

Many of the claims mirror information in case files previously released by the Department of Social Services. Authorities never found anything serious enough to take the children away, but the documents show Jones as a single father and computer engineer struggling to raise his children.

(...) A judge in December ordered a psychiatric evaluation, and no trial date has been set.

Rick Hubbard already is preparing the first steps he will take after becoming chief prosecutor in Lexington County...

Hubbard personally will lead the effort to obtain the death penalty for Timothy Jones, charged with killing his five children in August 2014 at the family home in Red Bank.

It’s one of the largest mass killings in decades in the Midlands. No trial date is set.

The murder case against Jones, 35, has since inched forward with little action or fanfare following his arrest that made national headlines in 2014. And now, with his death penalty trial tentatively scheduled for February, residents of the Lexington County community that mourned the Jones children say the public has all but forgotten about the case and the five youngsters.

Lexington Co. mom says this drug caused ex-husband to kill their 5 kids

Timothy Ray Jones Jr. was “under the intoxicating influence” of synthetic marijuana when he allegedly killed his five children in their Red Bank home three years ago, his former wife says.

The claim comes in a lawsuit seeking damages from five Lexington County retailers that Amber Jones says sold him the product.

The lawsuit doesn’t say how often Timothy Jones used the synthetic marijuana K-2, sold as Spice. “I don’t know the frequency or amount used,” said John Carrigg, a former Lexington County councilman who is one of Amber Jones’ lawyers.

Amber Jones, mother of 5 murdered children, says 'horrific' doesn't describe crime

Since August 2014, Amber Jones, the mother and the suspect’s ex-wife, hasn’t spoken publicly. She said her grief, combined with a restrictive gag order, limited what she could say.

Over the weekend, she finally broke her silence when she sat down for an exclusive interview.

“I feel like I’ve had to stay quiet for too long. I feel like I haven’t been given the chance to speak about my children, about what they endured, and what they went through,” she said.

First, she wanted to speak about who her children were as people. She described them as normal kids who had kind, carefree souls.

According to records in the Lexington County Courthouse, Jones' lawyers have notified 11th Circuit Solicitor Rick Hubbard that they intend to offer an insanity defense.

Hubbard has said he will seek the death penalty against Jones in a trial set to begin Oct. 15.
