Only the former headmaster of The Kinkaid School, where Armstrong attended before transferring to Lamar High School, testified before jurors were dismissed for the day.

The former school leader, Andrew Martire, described Kinkaid as a rigorous institution, where students were expected to participate athletically, academically and in the fine arts.

Armstrong was placed on academic probation in the second semester of the 2015-2016 school year, Martire said. School officials were interested in keeping him at the school, but he wasn't offered re-enrollment at the end of the semester, he said.

"His grades were not sufficient enough ... to essentially release the academic probation," he said.

Prosecutors: Text messages, emails tell tale of troubled teen in murder trial

HOUSTON - The relationship between A.J. Armstrong Jr. and his parents grew increasingly harried leading up to the night Dawn and Antonio Armstrong Sr. were killed, according to text messages and emails revealed Wednesday by prosecutors.
[.....]
However, prosecutors argue months of text and email exchanges between Armstrong and his parents weave a web of frustration, disappointment and anger over the teen's grades and apparent dishonesty. Dawn and Armstrong Sr. repeatedly disciplined their son, who was accused of lying multiple times, the messages revealed.

Prosecutors read excerpts from a stack of records during the testimony of Nathan Gates, an investigator with the Harris County District Attorney's Office. Gates worked to extract data from the mobile devices following the killings.
[.....]
Following the testimony regarding text and email exchanges, jurors heard testimony from two to other witnesses: employees of ADT, which owns the alarm system installed in the Armstrong family home.
[.....]
Day eight of the capital murder trial wrapped with more witness testimony expected from the prosecution. The defense said Wednesday it was confident it would begin its case Thursday.

I really hate it when they don't give the witnesses names..... :( If someone finds "who" the other 2 people were from ADT - please post! TIA! :)

Armstrong's relationship with parents 'really good,' girlfriend testifies at murder trial

HOUSTON - Was Antonio "A.J." Armstrong Jr. capable of doing what the state says he did? Could he have opted one early morning in July 2016 to kill his parents? Those were the questions being asked Monday in his murder trial.

Not the least bit, testified Kate Ober, Armstrong's girlfriend.

AJ Armstrong's girlfriend grilled over teen defendant's lies

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The 10th day of the A.J. Armstrong double murder trial wasn't a daylong affair of previous stages of the proceedings, but there was no shortage of moments that could shift the case.

In about four hours of court time, jurors heard from a former gym client of the defendant's slain father and A.J.'s girlfriend, who has steadfastly defended him since he was arrested for the July 2016 slayings.

The defense called up Joanne Oakes to begin testimony Monday afternoon. Oakes told jurors she had known murder victim Antonio Armstrong Sr. for more than two years, having been a client at his First Class Fitness gym. She also attended church with Antonio and his wife Dawn, who was also murdered.
[.....]
Kate Ober took the stand for the rest of the afternoon. For 4-and-a-half years, she has had an on-and-off dating relationship with A.J.
[.....]
Ober's determined attitude during defense questioning soon changed when the prosecution got to cross-examine. Throughout, prosecutors were trying to paint a picture of A.J.'s deception.
[.....]
Oakes and Ober represented the fourth and fifth witnesses of the defense, which began its case last Thursday. Testimony from A.J.'s family members is expected this week.

Wow. Fireworks in the courtroom during AJ Armstrong closing arguments. Here’s what I’m working on now! #abc13 See you on air at 4, 5, 6. Jury deliberating now....

Jury went home. Done for the day after three hours of deliberation. Back again tomorrow at 9am! We’ll be there! #abc13

Two very different versions of what happened inside the Armstrong house the night Antonio Sr. and Dawn were killed. What do you believe? Jury resumes deliberation at 9am tomorrow. #abc13

DEFENSE: AJ was a normal teen who got caught lying to his parents & smoking pot once in a while. “If you’re going to execute your mom and dad, does common sense tell you there will be a sign of some type of threat…something? Outside of lying to mom about a GF? Think about that.”

PROSECUTORS: AJ Armstrong planned to murder his parents and practiced when he fired a test shot 2 days prior into his bedroom floor. “Please... do not be manipulated by this master manipulator. Look at the evidence. Look at this practice shot. The defendant is guilty.” #abc13

The jury is not sequestered. They were dismissed at 5pm and will return to deliberate tomorrow (Thurs) at 9am. We’ll send an #abc13 push alert when they have a verdict!
