The dismemberment is based on rumor, not fact. Unfound weekly update this past Wednesday suggested that the radio host who spoke about this dismemberment did not have actual facts.

The phrase stated in the Canadian paper that “Miller stated his belief that Sherriff Lewis’ investigation by the Rangers might be used as material evidence for possible impeachment and/or character evidence at trial.” ......sounds more like incompetence and he could lose his job. They finished the investigation and I believe he is still a free man. No arrest for murder..... Is AG still working this case?

I so hate typing this out also jellybean...but I have heard that Thomas's skull was found. I don't know about any other body parts. I am just wondering if animals could have dismembered the body and scattered the remains? Hoping someone on this forum might have some expert input about this being a possibility? It is bone chilling to think about but I am afraid whoever did this to Thomas is a psychopath.
It is horrible to have to discuss this particular part of Thomas’s case. This is MOO only, but I believe that the information that came out on the interview from MomsforTom page (the dismemberment part) wasn’t planned, but nonetheless, happened. The autopsy results and COD were never made public, but that little bit of info was let out, and never refuted by anyone on the page, including Penny (so far). There would definitely be an opportunity for the coroner or forensic specialists to discern between animal activity(dismemberment) pertaining to remains, and manual dismemberment. I believe it would be a natural occurrence for animal activity to happen such as you suggest, but there were two remarks in regards to being cut up, and dismembered in that interview. Yes, it’s horrible. Yes, it lends itself to a heinous crime by a heinous person. That bit of information tells a story completely different than what I, and maybe others originally anticipated. I’m not sure I think he was moved several times or at all. There was a lot of time to take care of business that night. Moving a decomposing body is not easy, and leaves room for a lot of forensic evidence to be strewn around. I want whomever responsible for this heinous crime, to be held responsible, and for Thomas’s Family to feel that at least an ounce of justice was served. All MOO

I wish we had a firm answer o

Yes they are still on it. I wish we had a firm answer on that specific detail. That changes things when looking at historical and statistical data based on that detail. Hmmmm. MOO

IMHO - thanks for the info above. I think we're nearly all on the same page. Here's my list of curious things that keep sticking in my mind...
1. The sheriff has come up with three different scenarios on Tom's disappearance - suicide, runaway alone, runaway with older man he met online. Agreed, per Razz, this was unprofessional at the least and hurtful to the family - all of this within the first few weeks of Tom's disappearance. Has the sheriff put forth a theory on Tom's death??
2. Per Tom's brother on the Unfound Podcast, PG spent all night texting but there was no radio traffic. Odd, yes?
3. Per PG, the sheriff was not on duty and apparently no one thought it important enough to rouse him and call him in in this situation and he conveniently does not appear until 7 am about the time the Durango is found. He then immedately determines, based on what i don't know, and tells Tom's father, it's suicide.
4. Having only just heard about dismemberment - my thoughts are that it is a messy, time-consuming business. Please forgive me, but it would have had to have taken place somewhere that could be cleaned up and wouldn't be found when everyone was crawling all over town searching. The parties would have had to have somewhere to clean themselves up. Unless it did not take place that night, but later?
5. I do not believe young adults in a small community would have been able to keep something like that a secret all this time - I could be wrong. But I believe adults could have kept quiet.
By no means do I want anyone to think I'm bashing LE and in fact, I'm a huge supporter. But the investigation has been screwed from the very beginning and the local LE has done nearly everything possible to make themselves look suspicious.
You are more than welcome, tlorik. I just want this case solved and justice for Thomas and his family.

By all accounts, Thomas was a great kid. A good human being. Then his life was snuffed out before it even began. Why? Because a certain someone was having a bad day? Or because the said someone’s idea of fun is bullying teenagers with one of his buddies?

In one way or another, this individual was obsessed with Thomas, IMO.

What a senseless loss to so many.

I’m sorry. I just get angry thinking about what probably happened to Thomas that night, and what his mom has been put through for the last two and a half years.

With regard to some of your questions:

1. I don’t believe Lewis has ever shared a theory as to how or why Thomas may have been killed. In fact, I don’t think he has said anything about Thomas’ remains being found. The news was delivered in the form of a “press release from the Department of Public Safety,” which makes sense since the DPS has been in charge of the case since early 2018.
Authorities confirm remains found in Hemphill County are of missing teen Thomas Brown

2. I agree. It makes no sense. Whatever they were talking about, they didn’t want to run the risk of someone hearing them over the scanner, IMO;

3. NL wasn’t expecting Thomas’ parents to question anything, IMO.

4. I would say later, due to the time constraints, IMO.

5. I do believe that those responsible for Thomas’ demise (all adults, IMO) have kept quiet for over two years now, and if so, I find that very disturbing in itself. It’s not normal to be able to carry on like nothing ever happened when you murdered someone, helped someone move a dead body, or see a family in unimaginable pain every day because of something you’ve done.

It has only been in the last couple of weeks that I’ve started to look at the LEO’s as suspects. I had heard and read some things that lead me to consider the possibility before, but I always leaned towards students.

But after the story about Texas Rangers’ investigation of NL and the county attorney’s statement about Pyne’s unprofessionalism came out, I went over my old notes and watched a few videos, and now I think it all started with a couple of pathetic, loser cops, thinking that they were above the law.

Perfectly stated-

As far as dismemberment of the body...if this were not due to natural causes/animals, I do think they would have had time during the night to take care of it. In this region, many people own or have access to private land/barns/sheds and could have taken the body there. Also, many are hunters or ranchers and for that reason have meat-cutting equipment for deer and/or cattle processing. Someone experienced in cutting up a large animal could quickly use that same technique on a human body. I hate even posting about this, but I do think it is a plausible explanation. I think the disappearance occurred during hunting season, so someone may have already had equipment set up and ready to use. We know they drove around for up to 100 miles in Tom's truck. That's plenty of time to drive out to some remote ranchland or hunting cabin.

Yes, the AG is still working this case.

Thanks to Jellybean and IMHO for the feedback. I agree about the adults vs kids keeping quiet and being coldly calculated enough to accomplish this and to keep the secret. The disposal at a later time had not honestly occurred to me until i was typing the post, but i have always been bothered by things suddenly appearing in places that had been searched - backpack for one and remains for another. Remember there were numerous searches by lots of people. Then Sunny brilliantly reminded us, it was hunting season, and there were roughly 100 miles put on the truck! How many people have hunting leases - with cabins, trailers, camps that almost always have freezers or some type of storage facility. So if I was Sherlock, or Ms Marple, or any detective at all, i would find out who had a secondary location - hunting lease, lake cabin, deer camp - inside of a max 50 mile radius of town. Hmmm? Things to ponder.

It is my understanding that multiple families involved in this case own large acreages within that radius, as well as numerous other people living in Hemphill and surrounding counties.

From one of my earlier posts:

If you create a free account here, you can see who owns the various sections of land outside the city limits. Just zoom in on an area and hover over/click on a boundaried section of land: https://www.acrevalue.com/plat-map/TX/Hemphill/

If you go here, you can search by name/address/etc. both in and outside the city limits: Hemphill County Appraisal District - Property Data Search

Sunny, if we use the first link, we don't have to have a particular name in mind, it will pop up and tell us without a search for a specific name?

Hey Jellybean! Yes ma'am I just did, now I'm measuring out a radius of up to 60 miles in all directions. Could be just busy work for me! What was the name of the town that NL was an officer in before coming to Canadian? I forget at the moment.

I believe he was involved in law enforcement in more than one county/town in the Texas Panhandle, but he was in Perryton shortly before going to Canadian. Word on the street is that he was problematic. Some say he was overly focused on pulling over young attractive females, etc. It was while he worked for law enforcement in another county that he accosted Tom and his friends in front of The Palace Theater in downtown Canadian.

I'm just thinking ... if we can't confirm or deny that there was any dismemberment then how can we conclusively state or even think that the suspect(s) can 100% not be a student or someone around Tom's age range? We can't. Also, you can't underestimate what kids these days are actually capable of. In my hometown, there is a very bad epidemic of guns and shootings in Wilmington. I'd honestly feel safer driving 20 minutes and getting lost in the middle of Philadelphia or even potentially Baltimore than I would driving through Wilmington, Delaware (and I was born and raised here!). There are constantly 12, 13, 14 year olds who shoot and murder each other over facebook arguments and gang-warfare taking place via social media.

My point being -- just because we are dealing with high school kids I don't think you can say for certainty that they are incapable of committing acts like that. All MOO of course.
