The Crown will serve its brief of evidence on May 9. Mr Dawson, who lives in Queensland with his third wife, remains on bail after he provided a surety of $1.5 million in December.

Before Christmas, when Mr Dawson was granted bail, he was ordered to live with his wife Susan at their house on the Sunshine Coast, report to police daily, surrender his passport and not go overseas.
The changes mean he can now fly interstate for legal appointments but must give police 48-hours' notice, and can travel 25 kilometres from his home instead of 20.
He continues to deny he had anything to do with his wife's disappearance.
The case will return to court on May 9.

Prosecutors will announce today if they will use any information from The Teacher's Pet in the case against Chris Dawson, & more in News in 5.

An update on the court case on Thursday may answer whether prosecutors will use as evidence any material collected by journalist Hedley Thomas for the podcast.

Prosecutors were granted extra time in February to sift through the material, amounting to more than 100 gigabytes.

It's unclear whether the accused 70-year-old will be present in Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday.

The journalist behind the internationally popular podcast The Teacher's Pet about the disappearance of Sydney woman Lynette Dawson may have "shredded" material that could be significant to the case, a court has been told.

The lawyer for Lyn's former husband Chris Dawson told Downing Centre Local Court today that News Corp Australia journalist Hedley Thomas may have shredded or not supplied material which had the potential to send someone to jail.

The court heard police prosecutors and defence lawyers were working to recover all interviews conducted by Thomas through his Melbourne lawyers.

So they are accusing Hedley for shredding material?

The lawyer for accused killer Mr Dawson claims Mr Thomas said evidence from episode seven in chapter five of the podcast “needs to be shredded” or “we’ll all go to jail if it airs”.

Mr Dawson’s lawyer Greg Walsh told the court during a brief hearing today that it was “vitally important to the defence” the material be disclosed.

No doubt Dawson’s lawyer Greg Walsh will stop at nothing here. But that is after all what he is being paid for.

I suspect this will be long, unnecessarily drawn out and dirty as hell.

Outside the court this morning Chris Dawson's lawyer Greg Walsh said not only did he believe some material had been shredded, but also called the podcast one of the "biggest examples of biased journalism that he had ever seen".

"Chris Dawson's entitlement to a fair trial in my respectful opinion has been seriously prejudiced by the conduct of Mr Thomas and others and it's been a deliberate course of conduct," he said.

"It's a very important issue. This is about a man facing the most serious of charges, murder, in very, very unusual circumstances."

I bet if the podcast had concluded Chris Dawson was innocent, Greg Walsh would be praising Hedley Thomas for his journalistic integrity and perception.

Who will go to jail? Everyone involved in the podcast?

They didn't know there would be a trial in 2017. They could shred whatever they don't want.
Mr Walsh claims Mr Thomas made the comment about “shredding” evidence at a public function in Brisbane in 2017.

And if that evidence was that vital, they can simply discount that episode on the podcast. What's the big deal?

This is really going to be a long tug of war, while CD continues to enjoy life up in sunny Queensland.
 
This attempt by the defence to discredit Hedley's podcast and claim he has destroyed evidence that would have helped their case reeks of desperation IMO.

In every one of Hedley's podcast episodes there would have been editing done and there would have been a variety of reasons why certain portions ended up on the cutting room floor.

Along the way I bet Hedley was tempted to say and claim a lot of things he ultimately chose not to.

Unlike the police, who so very conveniently lost their evidence file, Hedley isn't a sworn officer of the law. Nor is he even a registered private investigator. He is a journalist for God's sake!!

Exactly. Anything Hedley put into writing and shredded, can be put into writing again.
 
In a joint statement with The Australian, Mr Thomas denied shredding or destroying material and said such a claim "egregiously" misrepresented his public comments, which related to a part of a draft script being withheld for legal reasons.

"There was never any suggestion that any underlying document had been destroyed," Mr Thomas said.

If there was evidence for the defence of Chris, Hedley would have published it. He made that point in the podcast. Do we forget that a lot of the podcast was based on the 2 inquests that was based on the fact that a "known person" was responsible for the death of Lyn Dawson. A lot was not new news.

Well, The Australian put up a new article less than an hour ago. They have already pulled it, but Google hasn't caught up to that yet. It was something about "Journalist rejects claims on podcast evidence" (as we already know) but I wanted to read it because The Australian is generally very thorough in their reporting.

I think the journos are going to be careful what they write due to the aggressiveness of Dawson's lawyer.
The Australian has a horse in this race, and needs to be careful.

Maybe we have to wait until the podcast is released again, which wont be until after the trial apparently.
