A statewide AMBER Alert is being issued by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on behalf of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office for Octavia Shaw. Octavia is a 23 month old black female with black hair, brown eyes, 2'00", and 30 lbs.

Octavia was last seen wearing a blue dress. Octavia was taken by Matias Martinez, a 37 year-old white male with black hair, brown eyes, 5'11" 185 lbs. Martinez took Octavia after a traffic stop and was last seen on foot on Boyscout Rd in Chattanooga TN.

There is an active warrant for kidnapping for Martinez. If you have information regarding the location of Octavia or Martinez please contact the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND or the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office at 423-622-0022.

URGENT INFORMATION: HCSO Searching for Missing Child

Hamilton County, TN – Earlier this afternoon, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputies effected a traffic stop at the intersection of Dayton Pike and Boy Scout Road. The subject vehicle was driven by a female and contained her two year old infant granddaughter and a Latin American male.

At the time of the stop, due to the heat, deputies asked the male subject to stand by near the roadway in the shade with the infant while they detained the female for questioning after finding out she had open, active warrants. During the course of the questioning, it became apparent to the deputies that the male individual had left the scene with the child. Deputies immediately began to search the area for the individual to no avail.

The male party is described as a 37 year old Latin American male identified as Matias Martinez. Martinez has a valid Massachusetts’s driver’s license, brown eyes, and is approximately 5’ 10” tall.

The name of the female infant is Octavia Afiya Shaw and she is two years old. She was last seen wearing a light blue dress with black sweat pants. She weighs approximately 30 pounds and is 2 feet tall. She has a bi-racial complexion.

Anyone with any information regarding Martinez, the child, or their whereabouts should immediately contact their local law enforcement agency.

Local law enforcement are currently searching the area where Martinez was last seen with the child.

HCSO Detectives have also notified the TBI and an Amber Alert has been approved and will be issued shortly.

The picture below is of Martinez and the child and was taken by the dashcam video in the deputies car from today’s vehicle stop.

No further information is available at this time as this is a developing situation.

Perhaps he only walked away because he didn't want to be arrested too? Hopefully he will take the girl back to her family, rather than harm her. She looks like she is a asleep on his shoulder in that picture. If his English is limited, perhaps this was a misunderstanding on his part? I'm hoping she will be found unharmed.

At tonight's press conference regarding Octavia Shaw, HCSO Public Relations Manager Matt Lea stated "The HCSO would like to reassure our community that we, along with our LE partners, are doing everything in our power to locate this young child and return her to her family."

Yes, that makes sense. its sounds like he was scared. I hope they are found safe
