Timothy Dean found guilty of killing Josh Niles, Amber Washburn in Sodus (with clip)

May 24, 2019

"Joshua Niles' and Amber Washburn's friends and family members let out a brief burst of relief on Friday afternoon.
After just over four hours of deliberation, jurors reached a verdict in the double-homicide case against 34-year-old Timothy Dean, a former police chief from Sunray, Texas.

When the jury's foreman said the jury found Dean guilty of first-degree murder, some of the victims' family sitting in the courtroom shouted "Yes!" and hugged each other, crying. They were asked to be quiet for the remainder of the verdict.

In the killing Niles and Washburn on Oct. 22, 2018, the jury found Dean guilty of the following charges:

One count of first-degree murder
Two counts of second-degree murder
Two counts of criminal possession of a weapon
One count of second-degree conspiracy ...

Dean will be sentenced at 9:30 a.m. July 25...."

Charlene Childers gets 28 years for Sodus double homicide (with clip)

Jun 27, 2019

"ROCHESTER, NY – (WROC) – Before sentencing Judge Daniel Barrett called the murders of Joshua Niles and Amber Washburn the most tragic he has ever seen.

Charlene Childers, 26, was sentenced to 28 years in state prison Thursday for the deaths of her ex-boyfriend 28-year-old Joshua Niles and his girlfriend 24-year-old Amber Washburn....

Overwhelmed with emotion their families also had the opportunity to speak directly to Childers...."

The entire justice system and the way the penalties are handed down and enforced needs to be scrutinized and changed, IMHO. She was the mastermind, and I doubt seriously she'll even serve 10 years. So many lives destroyed by this one, evil woman.

Tim Dean just arrived. Looks like we’re running a few minutes behind, but should be getting started pretty soon. I’m anticipating that the judge to sentence him to life without parole, but we’ll find out. @DandC

They just brought Tim Dean in. He's in a black and white striped jumpsuit. Orange rubber shoes. His beard has grown out a bit.

Ok, we're in the courtroom now. Families of Josh Niles and Amber Washburn are here. Things feel less tense than Charlene Childers' sentencing back in June -- lot more happy chatter as we're waiting for Judge Barrett.

Georgie Silvarole‏Verified account @gsilvarole 8h8 hours ago
FWIW the happy chatter is over with. It's silent. Still waiting for Judge Barrett.

Georgie Silvarole‏Verified account @gsilvarole 8h8 hours ago
He's in. We're getting started. Barrett asks everyone to be silent and respectful. "I know this has been long and hard and emotionally traumatic."

Barb and Kenny Niles are up. They're speaking now.

Georgie Silvarole‏Verified account @gsilvarole 8h8 hours ago
Barb: "You totally destroyed a lot of families' lives." Says she will have Josh's nephews over to the house.

"Every now and then, I'll catch one of his nephews hugging his urn."

Tim is looking straight ahead, not making eye contact.

Georgie Silvarole‏Verified account @gsilvarole 8h8 hours ago
Barb: "Him and Amber, they were wonderful people. ... She was a beautiful soul and you just shot her in the head. You're sick, you're a monster."

"I hope you rot in there and I hope you get what you deserve."

Georgie Silvarole‏Verified account @gsilvarole 8h8 hours ago
Kenny, Josh's brother, spoke briefly. Angeline Van Halle (not sure about spelling, sorry) is speaking now.

She's Amber's sister. She's replaying the day of the shooting and the planning that was discussed in trial.

"Timothy Dean is a cold-blooded killer."

Georgie Silvarole‏Verified account @gsilvarole 8h8 hours ago
"He should have turned around in Kansas, seen that accident as an omen." Says he had plenty of time to think about turning around but didn't. Josh and Amber's families had no idea that day would ruin their lives.

"There was no warning and they had no time to say goodbye."

Georgie Silvarole‏Verified account @gsilvarole 8h8 hours ago
VanHalle: "Every holiday, birthday and every day in between, we mourn. We mourn because Timothy Dean senselessly took two people out of this world."

She turns to Judge Barrett: "Your honor, I urge you to never allow this man to be free from prison."

Georgie Silvarole‏Verified account @gsilvarole 8h8 hours ago
Christine Callanan is up: "Timothy Dean committed the ultimate crime in killing Joshua Niles and Amber Washburn. ... It shook this community to its core."

Georgie Silvarole‏Verified account @gsilvarole 8h8 hours ago
Callanan asks the judge to sentence Tim Dean to life without parole.

"He never deserves to be a part of this community or any community ever again."

Damelio, Dean's defense attorney, says Tim Dean will not speak.

Georgie Silvarole‏Verified account @gsilvarole 8h8 hours ago
Barrett is speaking now before sentencing: "Mr. Dean, you are certainly a classic psychopath. ... I really wonder what goes on in your head."

That's it. Barrett says "He can be taken away" and Dean is escorted out of the room.

Ex-cop gets life without parole in Sodus murders

August 4, 2019

"LYONS — He was called a puppet, a disgraced police officer, a failure, a coward, a psychopath and a murderer.
Through it all, Tim Dean sat motionless and looked straight ahead while the families of the people he killed — Josh Niles and Amber Washburn — had their say during Dean’s sentencing Friday in Wayne County Court.

“You took away two beautiful people. You didn’t even know him (Josh),” Barb Niles, Josh’s mother, said while glaring at Dean. “You just listened to what your sick wife had to say about him.”

Minutes later, Judge Daniel Barrett sentenced Dean — a former police officer in Texas — to life in prison without parole for the October 2018 murders of Niles and Washburn outside their Carlton Street home in Sodus....

A third defendant in the case, Bron Bohlar, was sentenced to 1-3 years in prison for conspiring with Dean and Childers. Bohlar, also a former police officer in Texas, admitted he helped Dean rent a vehicle to drive from Texas to New York, although that vehicle was damaged in Kansas....

Before sentencing Dean, Barrett noted how he showed little or no emotion during the trial and sentencing.

“Mr. Dean, you are certainly a classic psychopath. I really don’t know what goes on in your head,” Barrett said. “I still cannot figure this out. I don’t know which one of you three geniuses thought you could get away with this. You will certainly die in prison.”"
