Here is the article I think was referred To. Not sure how accurate it is since it appears to have a difwrent report than all other networks.

Dominican Republic resort where 3 Americans died slams attacks on their staff
It could also be that ABC has the only accurate reporting of the preliminary autopsy results...

O/T I started the day following another thread about a missing American teen on a Norwegian Cruise line reported missing by her parents as reported by every major news network and concluded the day discovering it was a Korean 63 year old woman reported missing by her husband. So I am not exactly confident in any news reporting of the accurate facts right now.

When a person has cirrhosis of the liver or an enlarged liver, there can also be severe cardiopulmonary implications. No organ system works independent of one another. Therefore, its quite reasonable to expect someone to have cardiac and lung edema if they have some sort of liver failure. People can be quite ill without realizing it unless they get an early diagnosis.

The couple could easily have the same illnesses, if they shared the same lifestyle. The man was in his 60s, she was in her 40s but if they have a long history of drinking, couch potato lifestyle and blood pressure problems (someone had those pills) and one/both were on opiates.

As their vacation was coming to an end, I can almost guarantee they did more 'exercise', exertion etc during the previous week than would be normal for them and in the heat.

That is often the straw that breaks the camels back. Perhaps she witnessed his death, went into cardiogenic shock and had her heart attack. That is quite possible, it would be a horrible shock to her.

The other lady had pre-existing cardiac issues, perhaps the heat/strain of flying (lack of pressure in the plane) were contributing factors.

Planes are pressurized but not nearly as much as needed for *some* cardiac patients.

Some look just fine and collapse in a 'heartbeat'.

Its all very sad but until the rest of the tests are in, we won't know even the proper detailed causes of these deaths.

Some organophosphate poisonings involve gastric problems, headaches, confusion and long bone pain way ahead of LOC or death.

<modsnip: quoted post was removed> ... we already "know" that the people died from "heart attacks". Without comprehensive investigation, autopsy, and toxicology results.

The autopsy isn't sufficient to me, I would have preferred that the scene of the deaths was secured, for an opportunity for a forensic officer perform a complete investigation. But, of course, the hotel already cleaned up the area. No opportunity for investigation.

Another American family has been interviewed about their family member's death in DR in April.

California man died in April at Dominican Republic resort after drink from hotel room minibar, family says

According to the article linked above, Robert Bell Wallace, 67, from California, became ill April 11 after drinking a scotch from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana's room's minibar. He complained of feeling sick and having blood in his urine and stool, per a niece who was interviewed. A resort Doctor "checked" him, then decided on April 13 he needed to be hospitalized. Wallace died the next day. No mention of autopsy in article.

---------------------
ETA: Snipped from the article:

"While saying little publicly, however, teams of experts and inspectors from several international agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, conducted tests Thursday at the Bahia Principe properties where U.S. tourists died. It was unclear whether they inspected other resorts. The FBI confirmed to Fox News on Friday it was assisting Dominican authorities in investigating the deaths.

The testing and the FBI's involvement marked the first public indications that officials in the U.S. and the Dominican Republic have considered the possibility of something other than natural causes."

----------------
ETA2: While Wallace's death didn't happen at the Bahia Príncipe properties, it occurred at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana and is reportedly the second American illness/death at that property, IIRC.

I do not know what has caused the death of these people or if it was accidental or purposeful.

All I know is I do not believe what the DR government wants everyone to believe that all the deaths are just mere coincidences.

Nope, I don't believe that PR spin for one second.

I believe the FBI, and our state department will be able to reveal the whole truth why all of these people have died. The truth is yet to be revealed.

Jmho

Thanks for posting @?mysterian? . This is the case I was referring to in post #107.

Are there seriously people in this thread that believe all these Americans got sick and dropped dead bc well, people die? I don't think so, and if the FBI has become involved, I don't think they think it sounds normal either. I fear we will not be hearing too much about any type of closures (temporary or otherwise) of these resorts, and lots more people are going to become victims of whatever the heck is happening over there before something is done about it. (if anything can be done.) Not everyone reads websleuths, or even the news, for that matter.

I have no doubt there will be many more stories to come now that this has hit the mainstream.

Why didn’t we know this before? I smell a huge cover up, here. The Hard Rock hotel is American owned.

IMHO

HLN on Twitter

A local woman says she got violently ill at the same resort where three Americans died recently under mysterious circumstances. She's telling PIX11 she strongly believes she was poisoned by something she drank from the mini-bar.

"The room was beautiful the resort was beautiful," said Awilda Montes. "It was gorgeous."

Montes says what started out as a romantic anniversary trip, turned into a nightmare. She and her former boyfriend checked into the Luxury Bahia Principe Bouganville in the Dominican Republic last October. Shortly after arriving in their room, she took a bottle of 7-Up out of the mini fridge. When she drank it, the soda was flat and smelled like bleach... and this happened.

"When I took a swig of it, I kind of held it in my mouth the minute I held it, it just started burning," said Montes. "I ran to the bathroom when I spit it out there was blood, my mouth was on fire, my gums, everything was bleeding."

Montes was rushed to a hospital on the Island and showed PIX11 medical records stating she was treated for pain and vomiting. She believes spitting out the soda, and not ingesting it may have saved her life. "I didn't realize this could've been done on purpose, I just thought it was an accident someone mixed it up, but now i think it was done on purpose."

Montes believes the soda was intentionally tainted. Imagine her surprise when she heard the accounts of the recent incidents on the news, and her further shock when a friend called to tell her it was the same resort she vacationed at.

They could have a serial killer.

While I hope this is solved, I do feel bad for the DR. Tourism is likely to be one of their main forms of money/wealth and I would assume (I haven't done any personal research on this, so this is all speculation) that a lot of people from the DR make a living with something involving tourism.

It seems to be the majority of the issues are coming from the Bahia Principe Resorts. Famous baseball player David Ortez was just shot in the DR too. While I feel bad, I would also be too afraid to go there right now.

Sketchy resort, serial killer, or what have you, for the sake of the livelihoods of those that cannot control this (and for the families of the lost, of course), I hope we can get to the bottom of this quickly.

5 U.S. Tourists Have Died in the Dominican Republic Since April. Should You Cancel Your Trip?

^^ Regardless here is an article that I found interesting with a quote from a gentleman who formally worked for the CIA and now works from "International SOS" (a medical and security risk service company- per their website) stating he still doesn't consider the DR dangerous and that Americans should not cancel their travel plans.

All these reported deaths make me wonder if other visitors were affected/sickened but didn't die. If so, did they just think they drank too much alcohol, or ate some bad food? If so, did they request to be seen by the resort's M.D.?

It just seems like too many deaths to be coincidental, IMO.
