“How the jury can come up with a guilty verdict in this case, knowing that there are 3 profiles from the gravesite, from our standpoint just belies logic.”

I believe his statement sums it up pretty well.
And I believe that Merritt's DT and logic shared absolutely nothing in common. Today's verdict is proof of that.

Didn't we read there are 700 on death row in California?

When you read about the crimes these creeps have committed, you want to stay indoors, alone with your dog, security etc: murders occur everywhere, for sometimes little reason.:eek:
Guess you set yourself up, with reading material, your laptop, phone, and have items brought to your door.
Even then, you may be unlucky.
So you lose all your friends.....

What will the prosecution introduce in its share of the penalty phase? All the evidence of the crimes that CM has been convicted of, I’m sure. What about any he was ‘merely’ arrested for? I’m assuming the prosecution can show all the pictures it wants, now—the ones that the defense fought to keep out,

It will be great to see CM's past of crime.
This should satisfy the jurors, knowing this evil **** will NEVER leave prison.

Unbelievable. I'm watching the Ch.7 4pm news, with Artie Ojeda reporting. A family member (some redheaded female 35+) on her cell ph. getting into a small car and said to the camera, "he didn't mean it." Please. What. An. Idiot. (I guess it runs in the family).

The jurors are the “finders of facts” .

Apparently they believed the case against charles merritt was proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Since the checks were key in the PT’s case , I’m inclined to think they found that charles merritt , the person who benefitted , forged the checks .

charles merritt was found guilty .

IMO, justice was served today. There was more than enough to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

I'm happy the jury worked hard and did the right thing.

I saw his brother tell the cameraman to "leave us alone" while hooked up to an oxygen machine. I wonder if that is the SAME brother CM beat with a lead pipe?

LWOP means CM can be housed with other inmates and have a job/daily life in prison. The DP would mean he will never leave his cell w/o being shackled and escorted by guards. He will either be housed alone, or with 1 other inmate for the rest of his life in a cell 23 hours a day. I'm guessing CM is HOPING for the DP, since he KNOWS what happens to baby killers in prison from his prior experience.

If in a cell for 23 hours, would he be permitted reading material: books, daily papers etc?

:) Good Morning, Y'all !

I have not been here in a long, long time ... REAL LIFE has been extremely hectic.

But anyway ... I did watch some of the trial.

As most of the older members know, I used to post on this thread ... but I was the "lone wolf" as to my opinion, especially after CM was arrested. This is JMO but there is much more to this case than a "fountain business," "forged checks" and hacking, etc.

From what I watched of the trial, IMO, the PT failed in proving CM committed the murders, in the house, etc. But I will NOT be surprised if the jury convicts him on "emotions" because this is a very emotional case, especially with the murders of those 2 young boys.

Question: Is there anyone here that thinks that the PT did NOT prove their case BARD?

Thanks !

I do not believe they failed to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt. I believe they fully demonstrated he was and could only be the guilty party.

Why some even imply that this jury or any other jury for that matter bases their verdict on emotions rather than evidence leaves me dumbfounded.

Just think about it. If they were all based on emotions instead of the evidence itself the appellate courts would be overturning cases left, and right, which does not happen.

All murder trials have emotion in them because someone's life has been brutally taken, and the defendant's fate hangs in the balance.

No matter what this verdict is this jury did not base it on emotions.

That's absurd, and its rather meanspirited thing to accuse this jury of doing based on absolutely nothing.

It comes across as some already thinking they may not like the verdict, and are already prematurely accusing this jury.

Jmho

This is a death penalty case. To accuse a jury of voting for guilt based on emotion but not fact is pretty horrible, actually. Especially in light of all the evidence.

I am NOT - NOT surprised.

The Defense did a great job ... and PT worked on "emotions" ... and the jury fell for it.

I hope the Innocence Project takes this case on ASAP.

All JMO and MOO !

I'm sorry but I disagree. I am trained to set aside emotion and focus on logic. It's an inborn trait in me that was honed by my parents and in law school.

IMO the evidence was there. And let me tell you how "affected" I was by the case - While it's horrible and the murder of children is disgusting, I actually forgot the verdict was this morning.

Evidence. Logic. Rational thought. Critical thinking. That's what leads to a guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in this case, IMO.

He didn't mean it????? WTH! I thought Maline was saying the convicted quadruple murderer was innocent! Obvs she didn't get the talking points. Wow. I am stunned. I guess on the bright said, she is admitting that he actually did the crime.

So, when he was bashing little Gianni's tiny head over and over, he .......... didn't mean it? Yes, it does indeed run in the family. Consider the source.

IKR? I don’t know how many times I muttered, “What <modsnip> is wrong with people?” I had to stop looking and I was only on the C’s.

I know—I was shocked, even, at how quickly they moved today to announce the verdict, and it wouldn’t have surprised me at all if they’d started the penalty phase next week—I’m sure glad they didn’t wait, though!
So proud of these jurors. They saw through the smoke the DT fired up and went straight into prior testimony. Into their memories of the facts.: QBs, checks, lies etc
