RIVERSIDE -- The identity of human remains found along the North Branch of the Susquehanna River near Riverside in Northumberland County eight months ago still is unknown.
It has been determined the bones were that of an African-American male who had died between three months to year before they were found, state police said Monday.
A team from the forensic anthropology department at Mercyhurst University in Erie has been helping state police with the identification process.
A property owner in April discovered the remains that Coroner James F. Kelley said at the time also included clothing.
Initially it was thought the remains were that of a man missing from Bloomsburg since Jan. 14, but authorities said that turned out not to be the case.
The investigation remains active, troopers at the Stonington barracks said.
